"Soldiers, Sailors and Airmen of the Allied Expeditionary Force: You are about to embark upon the Great Crusade, toward which we have striven these many months. The eyes of the world are upon you. The hope and prayers of liberty-loving people everywhere march with you." Dwight D. Eisenhower, June 6, 1944

Please join the Military and Veterans Affairs Subcommittee as we welcome Dr. John E. Fahey, historian at the U.S. Naval History and Heritage Command, as he presents, “Thank God for the United States Navy” – Sailors and the Normandy Invasion. D-Day is justifiably remembered as one of the U.S. Army’s finest hours, with courageous soldiers wading through fire and water to liberate Europe from the N***s. Just as importantly, U.S. Navy sailors joined in this fight, delivering soldiers and supplies to the invasion beaches, clearing obstacles, providing gunfire support, caring for the wounded, and much more. As Major General Leonard Gerard said after landing on Omaha Beach, "thank God for the United States Navy!" For the 80th anniversary of the Normandy Invasion, this talk will explore the ways the U.S. Navy and its sailors made victory on D-Day possible.
