The Pap test does not check for ovarian cancer. The only cancer the Pap test screens for is cervical cancer. Since there is no simple and reliable way to screen for any gynecologic cancer except for cervical cancer, it is especially important to recognize warning signs, and learn what you can do to reduce your risk.

Here is what you can do—

Pay attention to your body, and know what is normal for you.
If you notice any changes in your body that are not normal for you and could be a sign of ovarian cancer, talk to your doctor about them.
Ask your doctor if you should have a diagnostic test, like a rectovaginal pelvic exam, a transvaginal ultrasound, or a CA-125 blood test if you have any unexplained signs or symptoms of ovarian cancer. These tests sometimes help find or rule out ovarian cancer.

Chris Evert, former world No. 1 tennis player and cancer survivor, gave this advice following her personal battle with stage 1C ovarian cancer. After losing her sister to the very same disease, Chris had somewhat of a blueprint for navigating an all too familiar experience.

Dr. Joel Cardenas shared, "the keys to an early diagnosis are keeping up to date with exams and office visits, knowing your family history and having a good relationship with your gynecologist."

We just returned from a beautiful evening at The Wellness House! They hosted a cooking class for couples led by Chef Sara Beth Tanner with live acoustic guitar music and a DIY flower bar. After class, they sent us home with homemade enchiladas, guac and tortilla chips, churros, and apple cider bubbly with lovely goblets. In addition, we were gifted with succulents and a gift bag full of goodies and encouragement from the Burr Ridge Community Church. It was such a blessing to be ministered to, yet so humbling. I am so very grateful for all the labor that went into this event, for everyone involved, and for my fellow attendees (new friends that I made tonight). I am truly blessed to be a part of The Wellness House. As one who is fighting cancer, I have benefited so much from this place. I appreciate all of the donors, employees, and volunteers who make this possible. Thank you for making a difference in my life! ❤️

February's Gyne Cancer is Vulvar Cancer. Ladies, check out the symptoms.

Each woman may experience different symptoms of Gynecologic Cancers, but here are the common signs.

- Back pain
- Bloating / Abdominal pain
- Burning, itching, or bleeding
on the v***a, or change of color
- Fatigue
- Feeling full / Lack of appetite
- Irregular bleeding or discharge
- Painful in*******se
- Pelvic pain or pressure
- Urinary frequency

Women are more at risk for Gynecologic Cancer if they are overweight, over 55 years old, or if they have a family history of Gynecologic Cancer.

Women who began menstruation before the age of twelve or who began menopause after the age of 50 are at higher risk for Ovarian Cancer.

If you have any of these symptoms that persist more than two weeks, make an appointment to see your gynecologist for a pelvic exam.

In 2022, I began the fight of my life. I had an aggressively growing cancer that I refused to acknowledge until it was sucking the life out of me. I was diagnosed with Stage 4 Uterine Cancer and Stage 3 Ovarian Cancer. I had almost all the signs of both cancers, but because I was busy, I chose to live in denial of the seriousness of my situation. Ignoring the symptoms that I was experiencing almost cost me my life. I urge you not to ignore your body's whispers as I did. If you are experiencing any of the gynecologic symptoms listed on this site, please visit your gynecologist right away. Time is of the essence.
