You may remember Ashleigh, who worked in the store for, what?, 10 years or so. I mean, all together, there was a hiatus in between. But, thatz completely there for trivia-lovers.

Anyway, she's in Oahu, and she has friends and family in Maui who lost everything... homes, businesses, and a cousin who is missing, and things dont look do great.

Anyway, she tells us that the wildfire was UNIMAGINABLY bad. Like Apocalyptic bad. We asked how we could help. She gave us a link for a LOCAL charity, on the ground because "f**k FEMA".

After 16 years, Eclecticity will be closing its doors forever. But, on Saturday, May 23rd, pretty much anything that is still on the floor will be sold.

That includes all the displays, from card spinners to earring holders to pendulum displays.

But, as always, it includes more... oh, so much more!

Baskets, lamps (mostly vintage), vases, clocks (some *really* cool vintage that you'll have to see to believe), wall-mounted wine racks, vintage tables in a variety of shapes and sizes and levels (!!), and lots and lots and LOTS of shelving units.

The more you buy, the better a price you'll get. If anything sounds good, and you're out of Chicago, give us a call on Friday at 773-275-3080 and we'll try to get it shipped out to you. But, everything is first come/first served, so call us quick!

Because there is an event on Saturday in Lincoln Square that is going to have the street blocked off for a huge chunk of the day.

And there are going to be kids everywhere.

And nowhere to park.

And we're sorry.

Hey there Eclecticity Fans!

I just got off the phone with the lovely Sophie, and we discussed a whole bunch of stuff about tomorrow's Last.Day.Sale.

And, there's a whole bunch of categories where The More You Buy, The Cheaper It Is.

Wooden birds. Shoyeido incense. Christmas ornaments. Greeting cards.

That's right. Greeting cards.

The more you buy, the cheaper it gets.

You know and I know that Eclecticity has the best greeting cards around. And you know and I know that people just aren't carrying greeting cards like they used to.

So.

Come in, tomorrow, May 9th, and knock your socks off. Really. You are never going to have a better chance to stock up.

It's so hard to say good-bye that we're having problems actually DOING it.

After we closed our doors last week, people started coming by, and sending emails and such, reminding us that this Sunday is Mother's Day, and a lot of people had their hearts set on shopping at Eclecticity, Chicago's Snazziest Store, to get their Moms a little something extra special.

At the same time, we found a stash of really ubercool stuff down in the basement. I mean, fun, funky, gorgeous, unique things that make Eclecticity live up to its name.

So, serendipity being our middle name (who knew?), we decided that we would open our doors ONE LAST TIME. This Saturday. Day after tomorrow. Day before Mother's Day. I'll get the calendar. Hang on. la la la. Oh, yes, Saturday May 9th.

REALLY cool, one-of-a-kind, unique, glorious, wonderful, ubersnazzy stuff. And priced to sell.

So, stock up for the next 5 Mother's Days. Cuz, really.

Now,

After THIS Saturday, we will be bringing up a lot of our old fixtures and baskets and lamps and displays from the basement, and we're gonna blow them out. There are a lot of fun and funky tables that we have collected over our 16 years in business that have never been on sale. They will be on sale on Saturday May 16th. If you like something and you can't make it down on May 16th, just let us know. We'll work something out.

I'm just gonna leave these last three paragraphs from the last email, because they still apply, and there's only so many adjectives I can think of at the moment, so, here's those...

First, Thank You, SO MUCH, for the past 16 years! Eclecticity has been a labor of love for us, and we have met so many wonderful people, and had so many fabulous experiences, that it is difficult to convey how wonderful an experience this has been for us.

This is our last week, and, everything is 30% off, except the jewelry, which remains at 10% off, and the last remaining Sarena Mann fairy, who remains at 20% off.

We will be bringing up a lot of our old fixtures and baskets and lamps and displays from the basement, and the prices that are marked on those will reflect the final mark downs. There are a lot of fun and funky tables that we have collected over our 16 years in business that have never been on sale. They are on sale now.

But due to a snafu of not actually reading our lease, we need a subletter to finish out a year in a WONDERFUL location, in a sunny, bright, cheery space, with a full basement with shelving of the stuff of legend, with beautiful wood and glass cases. The rent is a mere $2500 with rent of the garage space coming in at $150.

It is with unabashed sadness that I write to inform you that Eclecticity as we know it is going out of business. Since 1999 we have been your go-to spot for so many wonderful things that you just couldn't find anywhere else. We've made so many wonderful friends and have so many wonderful memories. But we can no longer afford to keep our doors open. And it's heart breaking.

To say goodbye, we will be having a graduated sale...the discounts will get more substantial as the weeks go by...but the inventory will not! So, the sooner you get in here, the more fabulous merchandise will be available!

Starting this coming Monday, March 2, 2015, we will be starting our Going Out of Business Sale. We will be putting everything, that's EVERYTHING in the store at 10% off. That's in addition to anything that's already discounted...so all of our holiday stuff will be even more excitingly discounted than it is already. And things that have never been on sale, will all be going on sale. Every frame, puzzle, journal and mug. Every one-of-a-kind witchball and Sarena Mann fairy lady creation, every buddha statue. Each and every ring and pendant, trivet, every vintage collectible. That's right. Every. Thing.

And here's the kicker. Although many of our things will be going on to greater discounts as the days and weeks go by, the jewelry will NOT. After it sees it's shining days of budgetary glory, I will be pulling all of the jewelry inventory to sell online. We have always strived to keep our prices competitive and our selection and quality high. And there's a limit as to how much I can afford to discount these lovelies. So, if you've been holding off getting that special pendant, ring, or pair of earrings, now is your golden moment!!

Although these doors at 4752 North Lincoln Avenue will be closing, many options remain open to us as to what we will do next. A restructured, revamped version of Eclecticity may well be in the works even now. I'll keep you updated, because as sad as we are to say goodbye to Eclecticity, we're pretty excited about some of the new things we're plotting and scheming. Meanwhile, please come in and buy a bunch of good stuff and share some memories and give us your faces to smile with.

Christmas is coming, but before it gets here, Thanksgiving happens first. We have so much to be thankful for this year. We are, in particular, thankful for all of you who kept our doors open this year, some of you through direct gifts. We cannot thank you enough.

What we *can* do is offer a deal.

Since we opened our doors in 1999, we have proudly carried one of the largest selections of Flendsted mobiles in the world. We love the quality of construction, the wonderful and whimsical designs, and the way they dance on our ceilings.

For professional reasons, we have decided not to continue carrying Flendsted in 2015.

Rather than just selling them over Christmas and going out of them in January, we wanted to give our friends a deal first.
