Three times as many people were experiencing homelessness in Chicago this year as migrant numbers surged 06/13/2024

Just released point-in-time count data revealed a 25% increase in homelessness in Chicago in 2023 — not including the more than 14,000 migrants who sought shelter. We applaud our government colleagues for rapidly expanding bed capacity by 5X to meet the urgent need. Brandie Knazze, CPPO Jonathan Ernst, Maura McCauley, Sendy L. Soto, and Christine Haley.

More investment is needed to expand proven solutions to homelessness.

Three times as many people were experiencing homelessness in Chicago this year as migrant numbers surged A city survey found that nearly 19,000 people were without permanent housing in January, compared with about 6,000 the year before.

Our Story

Renaissance Social Services is changing the lives of individuals and families in Chicago, giving them hope and vision for a new life. By supporting communities and supporting the people who live within them with quality affordable housing, behavioral healthcare, outreach, homeless prevention and compassionate support services, we provide the opportunity for stability and wellness.

Renaissance Social Services, Inc.focuses on Chicago’s most vulnerable homeless residents– those who have mental health issues, physical disabilities, and chronic illnesses. Many of our participants have been formerly incarcerated, are dealing with substance use issues, or have been victims of domestic abuse.

Our work provides safety, security, and peace of mind to Chicago’s homeless by helping them locate affordable housing in all parts of the City, and then providing ongoing support though regular meetings with social workers with expertise in addressing homelessness and housing issues. Our staff helps each participant get the services he/she/they needs to address their mental and physical health issues, improve their well being, and thrive.
