Overnight ramp, lane closures on Kennedy begin tonight
The Illinois Department of Transportation announced today that as part of ongoing efforts to rehabilitate the Kennedy Expressway (Interstate 90/94) in Chicago overnight ramp and lane closures, accompanied by 15-minute full expressway traffic stops, are scheduled to take place over 12 nights beginning, weather permitting, Tuesday, Sept. 3. The closures are necessary to safely replace sign structures and install new overhead signs along both sides of the expressway.
To complete the work, the public should expect overnight and weekend ramp and lane closures, down to one lane approaching each location. The closures are scheduled to take place from approximately 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. Sundays through Thursdays and from 10 p.m. Saturdays to 7 a.m. Sundays. Starting at 1 a.m. each night, full stops for no longer than 15 minutes at a time will take place. The following schedule is weather permitting and subject to change:
Inbound Kennedy
· Tuesday, Sept. 3 – approaching Western Avenue and Logan Boulevard.
· Wednesday, Sept. 4 – approaching Armitage Avenue.
· Saturday, Sept. 7 – between Ohio Street and Milwaukee Avenue. The Ontario Street ramp to the Dan Ryan Expressway (Interstate 90/94) will also be closed.
· Monday, Sept. 9 – approaching Kostner Avenue.
· Tuesday, Sept. 10 – approaching Pulaski Avenue.
· Wednesday, Sept. 11 – approaching Sacramento Avenue.
· Thursday, Sept. 12 – approaching Western Avenue and Logan Boulevard.
· Saturday, Sept. 12 – approaching Ohio Street.
· Sunday, Sept. 13 – approaching Pulaski Avenue.
· Monday, Sept. 14 – approaching Milwaukee Avenue.
Outbound Kennedy
· Thursday, Sept. 5 – approaching Fullerton Avenue.
· Sunday, Sept. 8 – approaching Fullerton Avenue. The Ontario Street ramp to the Ryan will also be closed.
The public should expect significant delays and allow extra time for trips through this area. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to flaggers and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits, slow down and be on the alert for workers and equipment. Traveling during non-peak hours and utilizing mass transit – Chicago Transit Authority’s Blue Line and Metra’s Union Pacific Northwest Line, as well as Pace – are recommended throughout the duration of the project, if possible.

The Honorable Dr. Dennis Deer
Chair, Cook County Health and Hospitals Committee Cook County Commissioner - 2nd District
It is with tremendous sorrow that we send this message. As you may have heard, Commissioner Dennis Deer passed on June 23.
Dr. Deer's passionate, lifelong dedication made him a tireless servant to the community in the areas of healthcare, education, economic development, employment and training, re-entry, and affordable housing.
Dr. Deer's greatest joy and pride was his family. He cherished his roles as husband to his high school sweetheart, Barbara Deer, and father to his twin sons, Kaleb and Kanaan, and daughter Trinity.
We deeply appreciate your love and concern as we navigate this life-changing event. We invite you to join us as we honor and celebrate the life of a true public servant and a wonderful husband and father.

May is Asian and Pacific Islander Month!
May was chosen because of two significant events. The first Japanese immigrants to the U.S. arrived on May 7, 1843. Then on May 19, 1869, the final spike for the transcontinental railroad track, in which Chinese laborers played a crucial role, was embedded.
