We are pleased to announce this year’s honorees and recipients of the Teaching Excellence Award, Peggy Malone, and Spirit of Ancona Award, Ellen Cole (posthumous). As 40-year veterans of Ancona, they have been instrumental in shaping generations of our youngest students to be creative problem-solvers, confident risk-takers, independent life-long learners, and future citizens of the global community.

Our students had an excellent visit for Hour of Code with Computer Scientist Adarsha Balaji from Argonne National Laboratory.

Ancona School - This Montessori based school prides itself on its explicit focus on justice and inclusivity.

The school’s LGBTQ+ Action Plan includes consistent use of gender neutral language; gender neutral sports policies and bathrooms; and partnerships to provide gender affirming, q***r inclusive health and sexuality education. All of those policies reflect Ancona’s history, said Interim Head of School Liz Iverson.

“Ancona was founded as a racially integrated school,” she said. “We have an abiding commitment to affirming children's identities and valuing all members of our community.”
