Rebuilding Community Trust in Turbulent Times
May 20-22, 2024

Our trustees invite you to submit a proposal for the 2024 Midwest Public Affairs Conference (MPAC). Individual paper, panel, roundtable, and workshop proposals are welcome on all topics in public affairs; we actively encourage submissions from faculty, students, and practitioners.

Our theme this year is Rebuilding Community Trust in Turbulent Times. We invite proposals that explore the relationship between residents and democratic governing institutions, with particular emphasis on how cross-sectoral social innovations redefine the relationship between residents and their governing institutions. MPAC prides itself on its diversity, in addition to theme-related papers we welcome proposals from a variety of PA-related fields such as urban affairs, public policy, nonprofit management, political science, and urban planning. Submissions from practitioners are welcome.

Registration fees for the event are $200 for academics and practitioners, $100 for students.

The submission period opens immediately, and acceptances are sent on a rolling basis. The proposal deadline is April 5, 2024. Registrations must be paid by April 20, 2024 to be included in the program.

To submit a MPAC proposal, please send the following in an email to [email protected]. 1) Paper/presentation title 2) names of author(s) and email address for each, 3) institutional affiliation and professional title, and 4) an abstract not to exceed 300 words. If you would like to serve as a panel chair, please add a brief statement indicating your interest. For more information about the conference and opportunities for sponsorship, please contact MPAC Interim President, Michael Ford at [email protected], or conference host Susan Opp at [email protected].

MPAC is proudly affiliated with the American Society for Public Administration. We seek to expand opportunities for education and research throughout the Midwest, while providing a mechanism for socialization between faculty, practitioners, and students in the public and nonprofit sectors.

Hello MPAC friends. Given the uncertainty of the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic we have decided to cancel MPAC 2020, and instead plan MPAC 2021 for June in Springfield, IL. Even if the situation is improved by September, planning has been disrupted to the point where rescheduling is prudent. If you have already submitted for 2020 we will be happy to consider that submission for 2021.

Hello everyone. Obviously we are some time away from our 2020 conference, but know we will be monitoring the coronavirus situation along with everyone else. Stay smart and stay safe.
