GNS Market
Neighborhood store with a wide-ranging selection and regularly released single barrels
What a fantastic day at Jack Daniel’s Distillery!
Starting with a private tour of their operation, a few highlights included:
1. The wood burning furnace that creates the charcoal for the Lincoln County Process
2. The natural aquifer in the cave
3. The “Safe that killed Jack Daniel’s”
Following the tour, we sat down in a rickhouse with Clint and selected a delicious barrel proof whiskey AND a barrel proof rye that will be landing in a few months.
We then walked over to Miss Mary Bobo’s for a true Southern hospitality experience, lunch and a show.
Can’t wait to share these barrels with y’all soon.
Something special coming your way soon..
It’s about that time again.. third time is the charm 🔥🥃🔥
This Tuesday we had the pleasure of hosting an exclusive SMWS tasting in our back room. Scotch Malt Whisky Society bottles some of the finest single casks of spirits around and the evening did not disappoint! Special thanks to and for organizing and making sure it went off without a hitch.
**BARREL DROP ALERT**
Releasing immediately:
“Rocky Mountain Oysters”
Distillery: Stranahan’s
Age: 9 year, 1 month in charred new oak
Mashbill: 100% malted barley
Proof: 117.9 NCF straight from the barrel
This is the oldest single barrel ever from Stranahan’s and one of the oldest American Single Malt SiBs ever released! In terms of value this is a steal at $59.99 as their program is generally comprised of 4-6 year barrels. When we visited the distillery back in February, their new Head Blender (Justin Aden, the genius behind the Mayor Pingree line) gave us the run of the rickhouse and we tried 15 barrels. The flavor profiles and proofs were all over the map but we finally lit on this barrel as truly being a flawless pour.
It begins with handfuls of grape Jolly Rancher, malt chocolate and shiny, worn down leather on the nose.
Flavor-wise this is horchata all the way, cinnamon and creaminess throughout. A bit of wood spice hangs out for the party as well.
On the finish there’s a surprising spicy pepper note that is unexpected for this category but quite welcome.
In summation, this is a good everyday sipper for a tremendous value. If you’re into Scotch this is likely right up your alley but even if not this is definitely worth a gander.
Last night’s tasting with Michter’s and was a great time!

**Belle of Bedford Extra Aged Rye**
Releasing at 4 PM today with only 65 bottles available:
Ton of depth on the nose, rich AF. Cinnamon stick, Madagascar vanillla beans, mesquite, baking spice.
Palate leads with candied orange peel, continues with solid oak presence, rye spice really mellowed out over its 11 years, 8 months in cask.
Finish hangs out for awhile with some expected tannins popping in to say hi.
This is a complete pour; nose, palate and finish work together harmoniously without flaw. It can stand up to the robust flavors of a cigar or enjoyed on its own.
Similarly aged products with the same DNA (MGP 95/5 Rye) are few and far between, pricy as well. Thankfully we were able to negotiate a price that allows us to stick to the desired $10/year mark: $119.99
You’ll also note the addition of our stamp of approval. We affix this just once a year to the single barrel we are most excited about and can’t wait for you to try. Cheers!
We’re pleased to announce the first ever single barrel of Old Rio Van Winkle 10 Year in the Illinois market! This took years of developing relationships with distributors and the brand but we finally got the chance to bring our elite pick team down to Buffalo Trace and select this fantastic barrel for y’all. This will be bottled at near-HAZMAT cask strength (69%) rather than the standard 107, and price will be a reasonable $420, considering the exclusivity. This will land in a couple months, stay tuned!
