As we spend this week reflecting on the freedoms gained for the people of this nation on our Independence Day, we also want to acknowledge the freedoms that came after July 4th, 1776.
In June, Metropolitan Family Services marked Juneteenth with special celebrations and recognitions of the end of slavery in the United States. It was not until June 19, 1865, two years after the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation, that government troops marched to Galveston, TX to notify enslaved people that they were free.
MFS is inspired to make this a time for reflection, restoration, and rejoicing. Enjoy this video sharing some of our center's celebrations:
CBIZ spent an afternoon at our DuPage Addison Children’s School, in support of Head Start Early learners. They weeded, added mulch, cleaned and sanitized toys.
One member of our Head Start staff, Laura A., shared that “Having a corporate sponsor do volunteer work in our classrooms is incredibly meaningful. It demonstrates a commitment to education and community engagement, while also providing valuable support for our teachers in our classrooms. It creates a collaborative environment where everyone benefits. Thank you for your volunteer time!! I really appreciate all the help you provided at ACC."
