Happy Founders Day Spelman 🥳🫶🏽🩵
143 years ago, Sophia B. Packard and Harriet E. Giles opened the gates of this illustrious institution. With a desire to educate Black women and the next generation of leaders, we’ve reached heights our sisters generations ago prayed for. A week long celebration dedicated to founding of Spelman College is fit for an all women’s institution who’s been given the title #1 HBCU 17 years in a row. Our hymn says it best: “Standards and honors raise.”

The Chicago Chapter of NAASC hosts numerous of events to strengthen the sisterhood bond of Chicago based Spelmanites beyond the gates. Once a young woman makes the choice to change the world, she is immediately welcomed by the chapter through events like the Honors Luncheon and the Back-to-School BBQ/Beach Party. These events are designed for students to create bonds with local Spelman graduates who want nothing but success for their new sisters.

Depending on your major or academic interests on Spelman's campus, you probably spent a lot of time at a particular academic building on campus. Each building is home to the different departments of academia. Freshman year was spent running from one end of campus to other and sitting in classes that would give us a peak into our major. However by Junior and Senior Year, depending on your major, you probably spent a lot of time in the buildings listed on the graphic. The STEM Spelmanites owned the Science Center computer labs and study areas while the liberal arts majors occupied Cosby and Giles. đź’™
What was your major on campus and what academic building did you spend the most time in? Are there any buildings we forgot to mention? Drop in the comments your response. 🤓📚

The president of a college is not only a pillar in the educational community but a leader amongst the budding leadership of students on a college campus. At Spelman, we’ve been fortunate enough to have presidents that not only help raise funds for the school but push Spelman to new heights. Decade after decade, our Presidential leadership has done extraordinary work within the gates of Spelman connecting students with post graduate opportunities and programs that embody our school’s tagline A Choice to Change the World. From increasing the focus on black women’s mental and physical health to encouraging activism, the current and past presidents of Spelman College have fostered a space where students can grow educationally and take on any challenge civically.
Drop in the comments below who the president was when you were on campus! đź’™

On Day 5 of our 10 Days of Spelman countdown, we are honoring the Spelman women of the Chicago Chapter of NAASC who have won the Golden Spirit Award. This award is given to a Spelman alumna who has not only made the choice to change the world but make a difference in the Chicago Spelman community. From their commitment to service to their dedication to helping prospective and current Spelman sisters on and off campus, the recipients of this award truly embody Spelman sisterhood and inspires current members of the Chicago Chapter of NAASC to never stop giving back to Spelman. đź’™

For Day 4 of our 10 day countdown, we are highlighting HOMECOMING! Homecoming truly brings out the impact of Spelman College’s sisterhood. We are reunited with many of our sisters we haven’t seen in a while that greatly affected our college experience.
As many of our Spelman sisters can attest, Homecoming as an alum makes you appreciate the Spelman sisterhood more than ever. Remembering traditions and speaking to classes that graduated before you creates an everlasting connection that feels like no other.
Get your tickets to this years Founders Day Celebration Luncheon ASAP! We are 20 seats away from teaching capacity and want to ensure every sister has a seat. Click on the link in our bio to purchase tickets to this years 143rd Founders Day luncheon đź’™
The White Dress Tradition consists of a “respectable and conservative” white dress paired with black shoes and flesh tone tights. Day 3 we want to remind everyone of the attire we strongly encouraged for our Founders Day Celebration Luncheon Saturday, April 13. Students and alumnae are expected to honor this timeless tradition as way to honor our sisters of the 1900s. A pair of “sensible black shoes” was placed with the white dress as a way to not overwhelm students and parents with the costs of buying more than one pair of shoes as back then shoes were expensive.
