Happy Pride Month! As we approach the solstice and the official start of summer, we are excited to celebrate our youth leaders, artists, activists, and programs by hosting an Art Show to showcase their work virtually. Registration in bio

RJAL, Reproductive Justice Action League, is our virtual youth organizing program for Reproductive Justice that centers and cultivates youth leadership, priorities, wisdom, creativity, and brilliance. This year’s program included collectively creating a vision for an RJ utopia through different mediums and celebrating where each of us fit into that vision, as well as learning about and uplifting the international Trans Day of Visibility (TDOV). We had a range of young artists and activists participate, from writers and poets to visual and performing artists, and we would love to showcase their work for our communities.

Join us on Saturday, July 13 from 2-3:30pm CT via Zoom for our first virtual RJAL Art Show! The show will be recorded and shared to everyone who RSVPs in case you cannot join us live. Artists will present their pieces, share their experiences, and promote their own upcoming projects. We will also hear from our program staff, Kat and grey who are also artists themselves, about the program, the virtual art-making prompts, and how to apply to the next cohort.

GRAPHIC DESCRIPTION: [A pink, green, and blue flier for ICAH’s Virtual Art Show produced by the Reproductive Justice Action League. Saturday, July 13 from 2-3:30pm CT on Zoom. Tomorrow is Trans Day of Visibility! Here are 6 things cis folks can be doing to recognize the day ✨🏳️‍⚧️
-
[IMAGE DESCRIPTION: Text that says, “6 Things Cisgender People Can Do This Transgender Day of Visibility.” Below are six purple, blue, and pink boxes that say, “Reflect. Take time to reflect on your own experiences of gender— including identity, expression, gender-related privilege, and the messages you receive (and send) about gender. Educate. Consider reading a book or article, listening to a podcast, or attending a workshop about gender diversity. Then share what you learn with at least one other cisgender person! Disrupt. Attend a protest, sign a petition, and contact government representatives to speak up for trans rights— especially if you live in a state or country with ongoing anti-trans legislation. Advocate. Use your position to fight for better trans inclusion in your schools, workplaces, faith communities, households, medical facilities, and other public/ community spaces. Donate. Give money, time, or mutual aid directly to trans people in need— and/ or to groups and organizations that specifically serve trans people and communities near you. Continue. Do not stop taking action after March 31st. True solidarity is a year-long commitment. Brainstorm how you will make sustainable change for trans liberation over time.”]

ICAH, a reproductive justice and youth-centered organization, announces its unwavering support and solidarity with the people of Palestine, and all peoples within occupied land, in their pursuit of justice and full self-determination. ICAH is also in solidarity with those fighting for justice and full autonomy in Sudan, Congo, Myanmar, West Papua, Haiti, Tigray, Hawaii, and beyond.

As an organization committed to Reproductive Justice, we believe in the fundamental rights of all individuals to live in dignity, free from violence, and with access to essential resources. We also recognize how these atrocities committed against Palestine intersect with Islamophobia, pinkwashing, violate bodily autonomy, disrupt youth justice, defy abolition values, community organizing, birth justice, gender justice, free speech, education, access, and much more. The ongoing mass death and genocide in Palestine has prompted ICAH to speak out and take several, organizational actions in solidarity:

ICAH is in Solidarity with Palestine + other Occupied Lands

CHICAGO, IL — ICAH, a reproductive justice and youth-centered organization, announces its unwavering support and solidarity with the people of Palestine, and all peoples within occupied land, in their pursuit of justice and full self-determination.

We signed onto the Reproductive Justice Includes Palestinian Liberation sign-on letter created by ARC-Southeast urging us to amplify the demands that come directly from Palestinians to show solidarity by using the RJ values, framework, movement, and platform.

We Shut It Down 4 Palestine on November, 9th, 2023 in solidarity with the global general strike halting business as usual to demand a ceasefire.
We signed onto the petition from Qu**rs for Liberation calling on large LGBTQIA2S+ organizations to publicly support an immediate ceasefire and condemn "pinkwashing", the deceptive use of q***rness to justify oppression and violence, LGBTQIA2S+ organizations must denounce this and reject neutrality in the face of genocide.
We signed onto the Philanthropy Open Letter for Humanity and Justice put together with institutional funders, individual donors and philanthropy professionals to call for a ceasefire and adherence to international humanitarian law.

We committed to not purchasing items from companies contributing to genocide and minimizing purchasing of new electronics that utilize conflict minerals. We have also minimized our dependence on land and oil and reduced our environmental impact as an organization by becoming fully virtual and no longer having a physical office we have to commute to.

We will continue to update our educational curricula, our affinity and cultural groups’ materials, and our social media with works, historical examples, art, and educational tools promoting justice against the global struggle for self-determination and the right to body sovereignty.

We invite individuals, communities, and governments worldwide to join us during this global strike week in advocating for swift actions to immediately stop the genocide against Palestinians and oppressed peoples globally by participating in any or all of the actions listed above. Today is the last day of so what better way to focus on violence prevention than with communal acts 🫶🏾

African societies and proverbs have taught us it takes a village to raise a child, which means it’s all of our responsibility to do our part (in big or small ways) to ensure we’re contributing to a safe and healthy environment.

We thank everyone who sent us these amazing suggestions to develop this list of gender-affirming acts that folks could bring to their spaces and communities as harm prevention. These ideas not only highlight why we have to keep demanding legislators and administrators do better and stop their dismissal/bigotry towards trans and non-binary youth, but they also pitch little victories and ideas that anyone can do in order to build up to our bigger wins.

As we close out this week, we ask that as y’all go through all of the lists we posted the past couple of day, we all agree to committing at least one random act of gender-affirming care a day. That as we work to lessen youth violence and trans violence, we also work to identify the factors and root causes so that we can protect trans youth with solutions and not bandaids.

As we shift to the second half of and thinking of ways we can provide over , we also want to think about it in the context of “Classmate, Colleague, and Coworker” settings. We owe it to ourselves and to one another to set foundations in place like red flagging transphobia/transphobic micro-aggressions and respectfully upholding people’s correct pronouns and names in schools and workplaces.

Vocal abuse is still abuse that has harmful effects on those the abuse is targeted towards. We can make changes in the way we speak about each other to be more thoughtful and inclusive. Being more intentional about the language we use can make a difference in how we think and act towards those around us as well as encourage other people to be more thoughtful about the way they interact with others.

Timeline photos 04/26/2023

How do we show up for our friends and family with gender affirming care? How do we make sure that the people we spend the most time with are also getting our most authentic selves and can be their most authentic selves around us?

The answers to these questions look different for everyone, for every group, and can even look different for every space the friends and family find themselves in. But they’re still important to ask and consider.

Photos from Illinois Caucus for Adolescent Health's post 04/25/2023

What does gender affirming care look like for the self? We all carry different ideas and perceptions around gender, both our own gender and our understanding of the concept of gender in the outer world. Sometimes these understandings are concrete and defined and sometimes, these understandings are still being figured out.

We asked members of ICAH for examples of gender affirming care and one person told us it was “buying the dinosaur lunch bag you always wanted.” They’re right, we all deserve that dinosaur lunch bag that we knew would make us feel happy and confident going out into the world (or just staying home.) 🦕 🦖

This year for , we call for the acknowledgment that trans violence IS youth violence and that both are a public health issue. The system cannot claim to be looking for ways to prevent youth violence while being one of the perpetrators and leading causes. As we’ve seen, many legislators and everyday trans antagonists will stop at nothing to oppress and attempt to erase trans youth in our communities and in our schools.

You can scroll this post to see the unfortunate facts and statistics for educational purposes, but we’re also choosing to dedicate this week towards (personal and interpersonal) solutions. So today, we’re talking and , but for the rest of the week, we’ll be diving into the iceberg of gender affirming care. (Sneak peek on the last slide 👀)

Happy full moon in Leo! 🌕 Since our 2022 “re:Birth” transition process, we keep growing into our boldest, warmest selves. We wish the same for you.

ICYMI: Check out our re:Birth plan! We created it in place of a traditional report on 8 months of focused, deep transition. It was inspired by the birth plan we created in the past for young parents in our Birth Justice Toolkit. 🐣 Alongside young people, board members, collaborating artists, and many people we admire: We learned a lot. We changed a lot. And the work — especially with respect to Youth Leadership, Care, and Accountability — continues.

Join us? See the last slide for actions YOU can take to support in thriving. Explore the full plan in photos below or on our website. Let us know what you think (and feel). 💕
