Our 2021 Children’s Mental Health Report examines the growing body of research on the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on children’s mental health, including the results of a survey of thousands of parents.

We look at some of the most common mental health challenges that children and adolescents have experienced during the pandemic, explore the major risk factors, and look at how can we reduce the mental health impacts of the next global public health crisis — and the remainder of this one.

Visit childmind.org/2021report or click the link in our bio to view the full report, and read summaries for parents and educators.

There is a lot of grief that comes with embracing what cannot be changed, what cannot be fixed, what cannot be undone, finished, shaped into a new reality or be made into something other than exactly what is. There is a lot of grief that comes with acceptance. Yet facing that grief has been the work of my lifetime and it continues to unravel in my bones as my life unfolds moment after moment.

The beauty of looking at my daughter and seeing myself is matched by the grief of knowing I never got that.
The beauty of loving someone is matched by the grief of missing them when they’re gone.
The beauty of shedding old layers of ourselves is matched by the grief of all the moments half-lived.
The beauty of finally seeing ourselves clearly is matched by the grief of all the years spent removing the cobwebs from the mirror.

You see, there is rarely beauty without grief.
There is rarely joy without a handful of sorrow somewhere close by.
There is rarely a wholly-lived life without the sting of pain visiting us often.
There is rarely the choice to really be here without also choosing to feel the harder stuff, too.

But what if we remembered that we we don't need to avoid grief in order to get to beauty?
What if it we embraced the hard instead of always trying to make it go away?
What if we held grief and sadness and loneliness as tenderly in our hands as we hold awe and wonder?
What if we knew we were just as sacred in our heaviness as we are in our light?
What if acceptance is less about finally reaching some "better" destination and is more about learning how to meet ourselves with compassion, exactly where we are?

I could wait to share about how we move past the harder parts of being human, yet that’s not the point.
The point is that it will always be hard sometimes, but we can be with ourselves in the good and the ache all the same.
We can be of service in the good and the ache all the same.
We can be deeply enough in the good and the ache all the same.

My achy parts see yours.
My goodness sees yours.
May we meet ourselves wherever we are, knowing we never have to rid ourselves of any of it in order to live a meaningful and beautiful life.

Friendly reminder: check in with yourself and make time to understand what self-care means to you and what you would like for it to look like.

Olga Phoenix Project created this helpful Self-Care Wheel. It serves a great reminder that self-care is a lot of different things. All important, big or small.

Just a few ways that I did self-care today was through light cleaning, chai tea, time with loved one, rest in between client sessions, and practicing gratitude for continued health and safety.

How do you self-care? If you feel comfortable sharing, leave a comment or send a message!

Stay well,
Olivia

STWC will be closed 9/23-9/29 to rest and rejuvenate!

Worry not! Just because I'll be away for a bit doesn't mean you're left hanging on your own- especially if things get tough.

Your wellness and safety is important to me.

First and foremost, if you are experiencing a life threatening emergency please dial 911 or go to your nearest emergency hospital.

If you are experiencing a Behavioral Health crisis (e.g., suicidal thoughts, aggression toward others, sudden trauma, etc.), please call the following for support:

24/7 crisis line at PILLARS by dialing 708-745-5277, press 1 for English/2 for Spanish, then 3 for Mental Health.

The National Su***de Prevention Hotline at 1-800-273-8255(TALK). Available 24/7 and free.

You may also connect with a Crisis Counselor, by texting HOME to 741741. This service is free and available as 24/7 support.

I will resume normal office hours on Thursday, September 30th, 2021and look forward to connecting with you upon my return.

Stay safe and be well!
💙Olivia

Systemic racism is deeply rooted in the history. It has destroyed the lives of many people and it is high time the change starts to come. Black people have been a victim of injustice and lost their loved ones because of police brutality. It is time to speak up. It is time to educate yourself

Racism has adverse effects in the live of people of color. Here are few generalised symptoms about the effects of racism. Always, keep in mind that every individual is different and their experiences are different❤️ Keep listening, keep educating yourself, keep having conversations, keep donating, keep signing petitions, keep helping as much as you can♥️ 🎨- •
