The Sentence of Michael Thompson received two awards--including the exceptionally rare & coveted Grand Clio for Advocacy work. 🏆 🏆 Thank you, Awards, for honoring this film about the critical need for cannabis criminal justice reform.

Michael Thompson is the longest-serving, non-violent offender in Michigan's history. In 1994, he was arrested for selling three pounds of cannabis to a close friend-turned-police informant. He was sentenced to 42-60 years and released in January 2021.

With widespread state legalization and the country moving closer towards federal legalization, the importance of Michael's story--and the thousands of individuals unjustly incarcerated for cannabis--will continue to grow. The hope is that this film will continue to be an empowering tool and a beacon of hope for cannabis advocates and nonprofits in their ongoing fight for justice.
