R.I.P. Tommy - He was great man!

It is with great sadness that the family of Thomas Gaither DeVane announces his eternal Home Going, after his long battle with illness, on Saturday, October 20, 2018, at the age of 71. Calling hours will be held on Monday, October 29, at Third Baptist Church, 149 Walnut St. Springfield, MA 01105 at 9:30a.m., followed by the Funeral Services from 10:30a.m.-12:30p.m. Burial at Veterans Memorial, 1390 Main St. Agawam, MA at 1:00 p.m.

Warning Order Big E Sept 14th, 2018.

We are looking for volunteers to work at the Big E. to raise money for the local Air Force Security Forces Association Chapter and the next Air Show Operation. (See Below)

September 14th is opening day and that is Military Day. The job involves us running their food booth for the day or part of the day. The Lions will also be there helping us out too. I believe 1 day and we can make enough money to fund our scholarship and probably have a little extra in the account to do some planning of other things for the future.

Making food; flipping burger, cooking fries, pouring drinks; cleaning tables and such. I have done this work as a USO rep for the past couple of years; if I can do it's not hard work...lol.

It's Military Day; free for us to get in and they will pay for our parking; if necessary; but they will take it out of our money that we earn. I'm going to sign us up and please pass the word to some of our other members; even if they are not members; this could be a EPR bullet too. Send me an email with your decision so I can start to compile a list of names for them.

ORF Air Show Operation 2018

439th SPS/SFS ORF Air Show 2018 After Action Report: The ORF was activated and recalled from July 13 thru July 15, 2018 to conduct Air Show Support Operations for those still in uniform. Through Individual, Unit, and Organization donations , we purchased $1,100.00 worth of burgers, dogs, water sodas etc to support those in uniform working the Air Show. The USAFR Services Squadron also provided an equal amount of supplies in support of the mission.

Over the three day period, we had up to 25 retirees volunteer to report and provide moral or physical support! Many new ORF’s made their initial debut, these included Ed Plant, Tim Smithers, Luke Monopoli, Dave Podworski, Chris Webster, Harold Jackson and Wesley Thiel. If I missed anyone, my sincere apologies, the personnel reporting records were lost in action….

The amount of alcohol purchased and consumed via the ORF’s personal funds is, and will remain highly classified.

The mission was completed successfully, and the ORF was deactivated after mission clean up and de-briefing on July 15, 2018.

Special thanks to the USO for the use of their facility, and the USO volunteers who provided support to us in accomplishing the mission!!

There are rumors of a selective recall for volunteers on September 14, 2018, to work the USO booth at the BIG E, to support the USO, and to raise funds for the Local Chapter of the Air Force Security Forces Association Scholarship Fund, and Next ORF Major Recall. A warning order and request for volunteers will follow shortly.

ALERT!! Air Show Warning Order #2:

The ORF CC and Executive staff met with the SFS/CC yesterday and arranged the details for the ORF air show support. We will be operating out of the USO Bldg 1500 across from the old cop shop 1520. We will have the Gazebo and a GP medium family tent, plus picnic tables grills etc. We will also have Gazebo’s set up in front of the 1500 on the grassed area for air show viewing.

We plan to rally at 0930 on Fri July 13th, outside the new Cop Shop to get up a collection and convoy to buy the food for the AGR’s and civilian cops. We will need to get rations (burgers/dogs) for 300 meals between the two days. The USO will also help with rations and condiments.

Services will provide us with burgers and dogs for the reservists per day. We will also feed reservists and retiree family members as always. We will have a locked area to store supplies in 1500, so our cache doesn’t get raided like the last Air show. Food will begin serving each day at 1030 hours until the troops are all fed.

Tentatively about 20 people (ORFs) say they will show to support, though I’d bet on more like 15. We will be cooking for over 300 people per day. Golf cart support may be available, if we do get one, one of our tasks will be box lunch delivery for static gate posts etc, which will free up patrols... We will have ORF parking passes, which will be issued on 07/13/18 at the recall rally point.

The T-shirt order is being placed, I will purchase a few extra for those procrastinators.

At this point, I have the following ORF’s FIRMLY COMMITTED to report for duty. Cahill, Ernst, Leblanc, Major, McGee, MacIntyre, Quill, Couture, Plant, Monopoli, Bronson, Daigneault, Dufresne. (The Dirty Dozen….. bakers dozen).

If I have missed a confirmed attendee, please reply and I will add to the confirmed reporting list.

Air Show T-Shirts? The question has arisen again, do we want to order new T-Shirts or not? If the majority want them, we'll order them. The last ones had the SP Badge and 439 SPF/SFS ORF underneath. The suggestion for the AFSPA Pioneer Valley Logo has been thrown in the ring.. Please reply with Yes or No - and we'll go from there...... ORF out.
