Kami Hoss: I'm a dentist. Even in this pandemic, oral health care is essential, especially for children. There has been no evidence of transmission of the coronavirus between patients and offices since dental practices reopened back in May. That is a remarkable safety track record.

COVID-19 Updates
Statewide Notice 5/1/2020.
County health orders being issued around California cannot direct dentists to immediately go back to routine practice because state public health orders are still in place. Instead they are letting the public know that they may begin to access other types essential health services, consistent with guidance released this week by the California Department of Public Health (CDPH). Dentists are awaiting specific guidance from CDPH, which is expected to be released shortly. CDPH guidance overrides any less restrictive directions from the county. In the meantime, dentists should continue to be available for dental care that is "urgent and emergent" during this pandemic, as the there continues to be an urgent shortage of proper PPE.
Published by the California Department of Public Health:
The guidance is intended to set a plan for California while understanding there may be local or regional circumstances that require different timelines for resumption of services.
See below, for Dentistry it is going to be sometime (unknown) until all the guidelines are met and adequate amount of Personal Protective Equipment is available.
California Department of Public Health During the COVID-19 pandemic both State and Local governments have worked together to respond to the pandemic. Stay-at-Home orders are in place and have supported the flattening of the curve in California. During this time, non-urgent health care has been deferred to support the State's efforts a...
What California and Washington can teach the world New data suggests that two West Coast states may have slowed the spread of coronavirus by implementing strict social distancing rules.
In light of the evolving COVID-19 pandemic we have decided to extend the temporary closure of our office until further notice tentatively until May 1st, 2020 .
We are canceling all scheduled appointments for the month of April, 2020. Our office will be in touch to help reschedule your appointments once we resume activities.
Should you require urgent dental care, please call our office as you normally would , leave a message in our general voicemail or the emergency phone number at the end of the message and either Dr. Gomes or Dr. Vasquez will contact you.
At this moment we will continue to evaluate the situation as it evolves and determine when it is appropriate for us to return to our normal business hours.
To say we are living in uncertain times is an immense understatement, and there are moments when we are fearful and filled with anxiety but, we need to be courageous and resilient, no problem is permanent
We wish all of you continued health and strength during this challenging time.
Sincerely,
Juan Andre Gomes, D.D.S

NOTICE OF TEMPORARY CLOSURE
Our top priority is the health and well -being of our patients, families ,staff, and community. During this difficult period, we are deeply committed to keeping everyone safe.
In light of the evolving COVID-19 pandemic and following today's recommendations by the American Dental Association, California Dental Association, and San Diego County Dental Society, we have decided to close our practice for the next 14 days, until hopefully, the first week of April.
If you have an appointment scheduled with us this or next week, our office will be in touch to help reschedule your appointment. If you require emergency dental care, please call our office as you normally would and follow the instructions in the answer machine message and either Dr. Gomes, or Dr. Vasquez will contact you.
We did not make this decision lightly, the health and welfare of our patients and our staff are of the utmost priority and we want to do our part to help "flatten the curve" and limit the spread of the coronavirus, to reduce patients hospitalizations and lessen the strain on resources needed to treat patients.
We wish you all good health and strength during this challenging time.
Today we received this guidance from the California Dental Association requesting the cooperation of all California dentists:
The California Dental Association strongly recommends that dentists practicing in California voluntarily suspend nonessential or non-urgent dental care for the next 14 days.
As always, it is expected that dentists will continue to be available as needed for emergency care and services.
CDA does not make this request lightly, and it is being done out of an abundance of caution during this historic public health emergency. As health care professionals, we all have a role to play in "flattening the curve" in order to follow sound, scientific public health advice to help limit infections and slow the spread of the virus.
Our collective actions now will determine the spread of COVID-19, and this recommendation is being made after careful deliberation and in consultation with state and national public health experts. We believe by taking these extraordinary precautions, dentists can make a difference in helping to preserve the limited supply of personal protective equipment critical for emergency dental care and frontline health care personnel responding to the pandemic.
Our office will be closed for the holidays from December 20, 2019 and will be returning on Monday, January 6, 2020.
Have a wonderful holiday season!
A special greeting of Thanksgiving time to express to you our sincere appreciation for your confidence and loyalty. We are deeply thankful and extend to you our best wishes for a happy and healthy Thanksgiving Day.
