If he knew what he was here for he probably wouldn't be so relaxed in that position.😬

But seriously, a big kudos to his family for raising such a well socialized dog that can be THIS comfortable at a vet visit... it's a rare & welcoming find. Conditioning animals to car rides, kennels, vet visits, other people and animals, leashes, etc. can contribute greatly to safer, less stressful experiences for your pets during vet visits & emergency situations.❤️ This boy is a poster child (but no longer a centerfold candidate).😅

Sometimes we don't wanna let 'em go... 🥰 (no worries though, we always do!😉) We love & care for your babies before, during, and after spay-neuter surgery as if they were our own. THANK YOU Clarksville (& beyond!) for entrusting us to fix your pets (& community cats!).

Last year we averaged 498 animals fixed per month. So far this year we are exceeding those numbers averaging 609 animals per month thanks to the addition of another veterinary surgeon to our team at the end of last year. Continuing on this path, by the end of the year we will have fixed over 7,300 animals at greatly discounted prices.

How can we do so many?? Like most other things in life, when you do something over & over again day in & day out, you get really, really good at it. Our veterinarians & support staff are Olympians of high volume spay-neuter, and we are so thankful for how hard they work for this community.🐾

How are we able to keep prices so affordable?? We employ a smaller, specialized team and the equipment, medications & supplies we carry are specific to high quality spay-neuter surgeries & aftercare. This greatly reduces our overhead and enables us to pass huge savings on to our community.

Show us some love by sharing your FIXED pets in the comments!❤️❤️❤️

If you recognize this dog, vehicle or individual (dumping video in comments), please message us ASAP with information. This dog was chained to a light pole on our property this morning at 5:00am & was found by a volunteer around 6:30am. We'd like to locate the individual, because there are lots of questions and potential abandonment charges to follow.

Before anyone posts "at least he took it somewhere safe..." EVERY non-profit organization, including us, is able to continue helping animals in our community by staying within the parameters of our mission statements & financial capabilities. As frustrating as this might be, the community doesn't get to decide if those limitations are acceptable to them and force animals on an organization to figure it all out.

We are a spay-neuter clinic, not a shelter. Our very small staff of 5 arrives early every morning to start bringing in 30-40 animals for spay-neuter surgeries. There isn't time or space in our small building to accommodate stray intakes and the sign on our front door says so. This is incredibly selfish and horribly disrespectful to the staff & volunteers who work REALLY long hours and face potential burnout every day as it is.

Every organization is doing the very best we can with the resources available to us. We get to say no... for the safety of the animals in our care, the preservation of the sanity of our workers, the stability of our finances & resources, and the longevity of the existence of our organizations.

Montgomery County Animal Care and Control (MCACC) is the ONLY shelter in town that is funded by our local government & taxpayers to take in animals, BUT they too have limitations & protocols that must be followed. There should be no expectation that local non-profits can or will pick up the slack. We promise that we are already killing ourselves trying… please be mindful & respectful of that.

The dog is a young intact male, friendly, not microchipped. He was picked up by MCACC (thank you for coming so quickly!) where he will have to stay for several days on stray hold. However, if he has an owner that would sign him over, he could be fixed & adopted immediately to free up very valuable space at the shelter. Please contact MCACC if you have any info or might be interested in meeting or possibly adopting this boy after stray hold.

SPAYING IT FORWARD... all the way to the Pacific!!

Each of our clinic staff was recently presented with two custom coins and a Certificate of Participation by LTC Coniglio and CPT/Dr. Waibel representing Ft. Campbell's 72nd Medical Detachment Veterinary Service Support team for "outstanding support & mentorship to ensure soldiers could surgically prep patients for spay-neuter in a high volume, fast-paced environment."

Dr. Waibel spearheaded Pacific Partnership 2023, a mission wherein she and her team traveled to locations including Samoa, Fiji, Malaysia, and the Philippines to work alongside (and share their high volume spay-neuter knowledge) with local animal welfare & clinic personnel to help with reducing pet overpopulation in their communities. At mission completion, 415 dogs & cats were fixed, vaccinated and dewormed through these efforts, and larger-scale fixing in these areas continues today!

Since our low-cost spay-neuter clinic opened in 2017, we've welcomed a couple dozen veterinarians stationed at Ft. Campbell who took the initiative to obtain their Tennessee licenses to "train" at our clinic. Obviously, they are already trained & skilled, but military veterinarians don't typically get a lot of time doing spays & neuters, so volunteering at our clinic keeps their surgical skills sharp! In return, they have been a tremendous help to us while the veterinary shortage continues nationwide. It has been a win-win-partnership that has fixed an additional 891 animals in our community & continues today!

We are incredibly proud of the 72nd's accomplishments and SO appreciative of the recognition & appreciation afforded to our small-but-mighty team. Most importantly, our goal to inspire veterinarians to spay it forward with the skills & confidence they build during their time here is truly the ultimate reward, and it is certainly our hope that each of them continues helping in shelter medicine and/or high volume spay-neuter in some capacity throughout the entirety of their veterinary careers!

BRAGGING RIGHTS... it's the most coveted prize for any game in our clinic!! Today's competition was guessing this big boy's weight before putting him on the scale: 172 #, 184 #, 165 #, 168 #, 205 #, and 182 # were the guesses.

Today's doctor was the winner guessing Rocco's EXACT weight... 205 lbs. of pure love. He was the handsomest & most best behaved boy (thank goodness!!!😬). He adored being the center of attention, and we loved having him here (until he started vibrating our walls with his post-anesthesia singing voice).😳🤪

Rocco now holds the new record for the largest dog fixed at our spay-neuter clinic.

Rocco is NOT available for adoption. He has a loving family who brought him in to be fixed at our clinic. 🥰

Cuteness alert! Please join us in wishing Emmett a VERY happy birthday! His big heart for animals prompted him to collect donations for the Humane Society in lieu of gifts for his birthday. We are so thankful for the donations AND so very proud of the example he is setting to others about the importance of giving back to those less fortunate in our community. THANK YOU, Emmett!!🐶❤️🐱

😸DONATION CHALLENGE!!😸

Our Cats MEOW TNR team currently has four caregivers trying to finish up colonies of cats abandoned in their areas. These individuals have big hearts but very limited income, and the financial demands on our TNR program serving our community's needs limits the amount we can contribute to each colony. Fixing these cats is critical to preventing inbreeding, suffering, & additional expenses associated with sickness & feeding.

If you are in a position to help, please use this link (http://clarksvillehumanesociety.org/programs/spay-it-forward) and select one of the following from the dropdown list:

FERAL CAT w/ ear tip - $35 to provide spay-neuter & ear tip
or
FERAL CAT PACKAGE - $55 to provide spay-neuter, ear tip, vaccines & flea/tick/ear mite treatment

In the notes, include the hashtag of the caretaker you want to help:

is a 68 year old grandmother who teaches her grandchildren compassion by feeding and sheltering the cats abandoned at her trailer park. She needs funds for just 4 MORE surgeries!

is a 70 year old disabled Clarksville resident who has given up vacations and car repairs to wake up each day at 6am to feed cats dumped at his retirement complex. He needs just 5 MORE surgeries to completely his colony!

& are 55 & 47 year old disabled veterans using their limited resources to provide for relatives, but recently three stray mama(s) and six kittens have moved in under their porch. They are willing to let them stay & feed them but can't afford the cost of fixing. Let’s honor their service & big hearts by helping them fix this newly discovered colony of 9.

If you don't have a preference on who to help, feel free to use the Facebook donation button to be applied to our general Cats Meow TNR fund to help these & other colonies in need.

THANK YOU for supporting TNR efforts in our community!!

AVAILABLE BY PRE-ORDER ONLY! DEADLINE IS THIS WEDNESDAY 5/22/24 BY MIDNIGHT.

You know you want one!🤪 Our BOB BARKER T-SHIRTS were locally designed & printed for the Humane Society of Clarksville - Montgomery County in memory of arguably the single biggest advocate of spaying & neutering... Bob Barker who we lost in August 2023 at age 99.

Bob was advocating for spay & neuter long before it became a nationwide (& worldwide!) movement. His foundation funded hundreds of surgeries right here in Clarksville over a period of several years while we operated our decade-long voucher program prior to opening our clinic. Continuing to share his message seemed the most fitting way for us to memorialize & thank him for his tremendous work for this cause, which has literally saved millions of dogs & cats from suffering & euthanasia - too often the end game to overpopulation.

SHIRTS ARE AVAILABLE BY PRE-ORDER ONLY. DEADLINE TO ORDER IS THIS WEDNESDAY 5/22/24 BY MIDNIGHT and will be available for local pickup at the Humane Society within 2 weeks. We will email you when ready for pickup! Shipping is available for out-of-towners to anywhere in the U.S. for $8. Just choose the shipping option when ordering.

A new record!!! Action Air Conditioning Service, Inc. presented us with a check for $952 this week for its annual "Be Cool & Help a Dog Out" fundraiser held every April. "We were proud to donate a portion of every service call we went on all April long to such a worthwhile organization."

THANK YOU to Action Air & all of their wonderful customers who helped set this new record! This year, a feline friend Luke Skywhiskers (available for adoption through Puurrrfect Paws Rescue) joined our diplo-dog Molly in the photo shoot, but he snubbed the photographer... probably because it's not called "Be Cool & Help A Cat Out." 😼

Zeus earned a prize this week for being the first dog in our campaign to hike his leg on our recently acquired fire hydrant. Since 2017 when our low cost spay-neuter clinic opened, thousands of unaltered dogs have p*ed on the bush by our front door. (It's understandably the best part of their day considering what we do here.) The bush miraculously still stands & thrives, but we couldn't pass on this fun secondary option for our most testosterone-driven patients since we much prefer they p*e outside than inside the building.😬😅 (months)

(Resting Cage Face) accolades go to Archibald & Remi this week!😆

Archibald's family brought him in for neuter at our low-cost spay-neuter clinic. We also offer several routine services at extremely low rates (but only at the time of surgery), so we always encourage clients to stock up while their pet is here... and bonus for your pets, most services are done while they are sleeping, which is less stressful for them.

Remi is a senior that was adopted from United Yorkie Rescue. He was in for a rare dental cleaning opportunity courtesy of our partnership with APSU's pre-vet program overseen by Dr. Webb.❤️

04/05/2024

Puurrrrrfectly said! To summarize, have a plan in place BEFORE you trap. And, if you are feeding you absolutely MUST be fixing in order to truly be helping the situation (and the cats!).😻 Feeding feels good, but fixing makes the difference.

So you trapped that cat. Now what?

The biggest mistake newbies make when trapping a cat is to trap it, and then go looking for help. HUGE mistake – for many reasons.
• MOST important – what if that cat is lactating? She’s got babies out there who will die if you keep her too long – but how long will it take for you to find some help? Appointments are hard to come by these days, and a vet at a private clinic is going to charge full price – can you afford it?
• Do you have a place to hold this cat while you are looking for help? The CCC has more than once received emails with this exact scenario – "I trapped this cat, can you take it?” No, because the CCC is not a shelter or rescue – our members who trap hold the cats THEY are trapping in their own homes. If you are trapping, you need to expect YOU will be caring for this cat while you find help.
• Do you know how to take care of a cat in a trap? How long will the cat sit in that trap, without food/water or a place to p*e/poop?
• You want to get it fixed – have you already made an appt? If not, it may be weeks… Appt FIRST – then trap.
• What is your plan for that cat? If no one will take it, are you going to bring it inside and try to socialize it? Will you be releasing it to live where you trapped it? Shelters, Rescues and independent Rescuers are up to their eyeballs in cats – what will you do if no one cat take the cat?

Please – don’t trap without a plan. You may think you are helping the cat, your intentions are good – but you need to think it out BEFORE you take action. Exceptions to this would be a cat in distress – he was hit by a cat, he’s lethargic/obviously ill, he’s dying… yes, trap/capture that cat and get it to a vet. But when you have time to wait – stop. Make a plan, THEN take action!
