I’m not really sure where to begin, so this might be all over the place. It’s been a long time, a really long time, since I’ve made decisions that I felt confident about. For nearly five years I’ve questioned, and requestioned, everything I do. On August 12, 2019, the confidence I had in myself melted away in the blink of any eye. I say melted because things that are melted down, will never again return to their original form. It’s been a hard and painful journey of working to restore and rebuild my confidence.

As I’ve previously shared, I accepted a new job for this coming school year to work with students and families in our school district who are displaced or experiencing homelessness. Before I could accept the job, I had to interview. Before interviewing, I had to apply. Before applying, I had to share my intentions with my principal and closest coworkers. And before that, I had to pray, think and consider if I was willing to take the leap of leaving a job I enjoyed with people I’d grown to love and a workplace where I felt safe and secure. I also had to believe in myself that I was right for the job. West Creek Elementary has been in front of me, beside me and behind me since losing Caleb and it (among others) gave me a reason to get out of bed, get showered and get out of the door everyday when all I wanted to do was stay in bed and cry.

Yesterday I worked this event with some of my new teammates. I drove away from Kenwood High School last night exhausted and sweaty, but with tears in my eyes because I felt confident that I made the right decision to apply for my new position. Change is unnerving and I’m not naive. Leaving WCES will not be easy and my new job will be challenging, but it feels SO good to say that I’m restoring confidence in myself again. Will this confidence stick around? Only time will tell, but I hope so. Why am I sharing all this? Because maybe you’ve experienced a tragedy and/or something happened in your life that caused you to doubt yourself. Keep moving, keep working on yourself, keep doing the next right thing and don’t lose hope. If you need hope, just think of me. I lost my son, to su***de, for no reason, and I’m still here. I’m still living, I have happiness in my heart, I have a purpose, I’m still living and I’m still growing 💔❤️‍🩹🧡

I am so looking forward to working with an amazing team of people whose job every day is to help students and families find their way forward.

Sometimes people stop at our table, read our banner then say “The Caleb Cares Project… What is this about?” or “What do y’all do?” I still stumble over what to say and where to begin. Lately, I’ve been saying that we are nonprofit that exits to help meet some day-to-day needs for children, youth and families in our community. We give shoes and clothing, pay for sports registration fees and provide weekend snack backs to 3 Head Start classrooms. We take up and deliver back to school supplies and holiday gifts for foster kids. Sometimes they ask who Caleb is, and sometimes they don’t. Sometimes I voluntarily explain who Caleb is and how this organization came to be, and sometimes I can’t. It stops me in my tracks every time I have say “We started this organization after the passing of our son, Caleb, who gave a lot of his time in community service and we wanted to continue his work.”

Here we are. An official organization for four years, and nearly five years without our son. We get to say his name, give out treats, squishy hearts and share his love, and our love, with people of all ages. Clarksville community, 🧡

Happy Juneteenth from The Caleb Cares Project! Juneteenth, also known as Freedom Day, Jubilee Day, or Emancipation Day, is a holiday celebrated on June 19th. It commemorates the end of slavery in the United States. Specifically, it marks the day in 1865 when Union General Gordon Granger arrived in Galveston, Texas, and announced General Order No. 3, which declared that all enslaved people in Texas were free. This announcement came more than two years after President Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation on January 1, 1863.

Juneteenth has since become a significant cultural and historical celebration, especially within the African American community. It is a time for reflection, education, and celebration of African American culture and achievements. Festivities often include parades, concerts, family gatherings, and educational events. In 2021, Juneteenth was officially recognized as a federal holiday in the United States. We are proud to join our city and nation in celebrating this important day 💚🖤❤️

THIS IS OUR WHY!

Good morning, Mrs. Chrisy. I wasn't here last week, but I received your gift this morning, and it filled my heart with gratitude. I wish I could give you a big hug, ma'am. THANK YOU! I am so grateful for what you and your family have done for the Head Start Program. Thank you for consistently bringing joy to each child every Friday. The bags from the Caleb Cares Project have significantly impacted the lives of our homeless families. The Head Start Program is always ready to support The Caleb Care Project whenever you need us. Please feel free to email, call, or visit us if you need any volunteers. Once again, words cannot express my gratitude towards you, your family, and the Caleb Care Project, but from the bottom of my heart, I want to say "Thank you on behalf of The Kenwood Head Start Program and Staff."

Each week of the school year we deliver 36-54 weekend snack bags to the Kenwood and Lincoln Homes Head Starts. Last week we delivered a little extra love to show the teachers that we love them, too. Each teacher received a Caleb Cares shirt and some gift cards just for them. When you give to , we give it right back to amazing people in our community. We wanted these teachers to know they are appreciated for the work they do! 🧡❤️

"Doesn't everything die at last, and too soon?
Tell me, what is it you plan to do
With your one wild and precious life?"
Mary Oliver - "The Sunny Day"

What is your why? What you do changes when you know what your why is. What am I doing here? What is my mission? What am I living out? My why has changed over the course these last 4 1/2 years and in all honesty, I'm at peace with the why I have now, I just hate how it got here. Your why is the drive and motivation behind what you do, and how you do it. As I live out my why everyday and become closer to Jesus, I get to loop others in on my journey. When we loop others in on our journey, we have an opportunity to bring the Kingdom of God into their lives.

If I didn't have a relationship with Jesus on August 12, 2019, I wouldn't be here anymore. I.would.not.be.here.any.more. He is my refuge, my strength, my ever-present help in times of trouble. His grace is sufficient for me and His mercy has been new every morning. He is for me. He is for you.

Guys, I am not comfortable in front of the camera, but I'm sharing this any way. Stefanie Miller from Main Street Clarksville interviewed me about the auction and was kind enough to put this video together for us. It's a 4 minute video all about the scholarship, the event and everything in between!

For the 4 minutes I watched this, I was cringing the whole time naming flaw after flaw after flaw while thinking to myself, I cannot share this! We're our worst critic, aren't we?! After some self-reflection I realized this video is a beautiful shining light of a way I honor my son, Caleb. We're having a fundraising event for a scholarship in his name that will help a local student with their financial obligation to college. I'm just a mom trying to keep my son's memory alive, and that's incredibly beautiful 🧡
