Painful truth...
This week's Wise Words come from Ernst Hoyos 🗣️
Hoyos learned to ride in his native Austria on his father’s Icelandic ponies and racing Thoroughbreds. At 17, he was accepted at the Spanish Riding School in Vienna where he studied for many years. In 1993, he began working at Olympic Medalist Ulla Salzgeber’s stable in Germany, where the two continue to collaborate. He has worked with many other top horses and riders, including Lisa Wilcox, a U.S. Olympic medalist. Hoyos is featured in David Collin’s book, "Dressage Masters".

Winter weather update 1/18
All the horses are doing well and enjoying playing in the snow! The barn staff has been spectacular, most everyone showing up even on the worst days. Extra checks to resupply hay and water in the cold early morning hours has provided a peace of mind that everyone has been staying fed and hydrated. Extra salt daily since last week has helped to keep everyone drinking. Preparing for the next dip into frigid Temps this weekend, then hopefully a break from the cold next week!

Locust Run is going to have a couple of lesson program openings when we start back up in lessons in January after Christmas break! Mrs Becky is a USDF Bronze medalist and L graduate for judging. She is also a certified Master Instructor through the CHA. Lessons are available on lesson horses or you can haul-in and take lessons on your own horse. Lessons on lesson horse are $70/ea, once weekly paid by the month. Lessons on your own horse start at $60/ea for a 30min lesson. At Locust Run we focus on developing a balanced rider and horse using dressage and natural horsemanship principles promoting a connected relationship. We also offer obstacle work and train towards showing in either dressage or working equitation. Riders must be intermediate or above and will be expected to be able to groom and tack their own horse within a few lessons. Leasing opportunities are also available to allow riders to progress past lessons. Contact Mrs Becky 931-237-0142 for more information.
All is well at the barn with the storm's passing, praise God!
I DID NOT KNOW... by Alissa Kelly
I did not know a horse could bring people into your life that end up meaning the most to you.
I did not know a horse could make the hardest days of your life bearable.
I did not know a horse could teach you to put others first.
I did not know a horse could remind you time and time again that your gut is always right.
I did not know a horse could break your heart.
I did not know a horse could pick you up when you have fallen apart.
I did not know a horse could teach you to dream again, after you thought it was not possible.
I did not know a horse could make you believe in yourself.
I did not know a horse could teach responsibility, work ethic, and dedication.
I did not know a horse could make you believe in something when no one else does.
I did not know a horse could make you learn to forgive and forget.
I did not know a horse could humble you faster than you can say humble.
I did not know a horse could make you a winner.
I did not know a horse could also teach you how to lose gracefully.
I did not know a horse could instill patience in you.
I did not know a horse could make you listen better.
I did not know a horse could give you their heart.
I did not know a horse could change your life.
I did not know a horse could do all these things...
but now I know. ❤️❤️
