The Western Reserve Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution (WRSSAR) will restart its monthly happy hours (First Thursday’s) for members, families and friends on Thursday, April 4th. Join us at Hail Mary’s located at 27828 Center Ridge Road, Westlake, Ohio, 44145 from 5:30-7:30pm.

Not only is this a good way for members to share and learn more about the American Revolutionary War and their patriot ancestors it’s also a good opportunity for prospective members to find out more about the organization.

Each month between April through September, a WRSSAR member will host this event at an location of their choice throughout greater Cleveland. First Vice President, Matthew Smith and his wife
Catherine will kick off the year by hosting April’s First Thursday.

In keeping with tradition, the Archibald M. Willard Color Guard presented the colors at Lake View Cemetery's Memorial Day program on the lawn of the James A. Garfield Memorial and WRSSAR President, Zackary Hoon, presented a wreath to honor all those who have died in American Wars.

WRSSAR Members and family helped place flags on the over 9,000 veterans buried at Lake View Cemetery in preparation for Memorial Day. We had two groups volunteer on Thursday, May 25 and one group on Saturday, May 27 that, together, identified and placed over 250 flags to remember veterans from the Civil War to today. We are certain this meaningful and humbling experience will become an annual tradition.

Announcing WRSSAR First Thursdays!

Join us for fraternity and camaraderie on a more personal level in a casual setting. Grab a beer or your favorite drink at the bar, a bite to eat if you want, and get to know a few of your fellow compatriots. We’ll talk about our shared American ancestry, sports, travel, or just about anything. No program, no clapping, just hanging out and having fun. Feel free to bring your spouse or friends who are curious about our organization.

This month’s gathering is being coordinated by WRSSAR Board Member Matthew Smith. Stop by Hail Marys in Westlake (27828 Center Ridge Road, Westlake) between 5:30 pm and 7:30 pm on Thursday, June 1. Happens in a new location every month. Let us know if you’d like to pick the next place!

The Noble Fury of Samuel Adams 10/04/2022

Hello members and friends of the WRSSAR. We will try to post 1 article or link each week either to promote our events or general non-partisan history about the US Revolutionary War (our mission).

Today, this article was recommended to us by one of our members. I'm linking to the Smithsonian article here/below.

If you find an interesting story that we should post, please let us know [email protected]. Remember, we are 100% committed to being non-partisan and respectful of all of our members.

Attention all WRSSAR Members who are US Veterans:
The WRS and the Ohio Society, in maintaining our important mission, seek to collect member service information so that we can officially honor and recognize your service to this country.
The only way that we can know if you have served is through your own self-reporting (name, branch, years, and anything else that you wish to add).
This information will appear by your name in our WRSSAR directory and will be included in Ohio Society records, as well.
You can email that information to: [email protected] (our usual email account)
Thank you so much! We welcome any questions that you may have. (Bill Shanklin, Veterans Committee, WRSSAR)
