AmazinnMe
AmazinnMe Bridge Program strives to provide educational support and resources for all youth.
Thank you to every student who participated in our 1st Annual Scholastic Young Arts Competition. With community, culture and travel being the focus in art expression we wanted to expound on participants selecting artist(s) to draw that were apart of the Neo-Impressionism Movement. As more conservative art trends tend to fade AmazinnMe is now apart of the reason why students have the opportunity to learn about art of the 1980s and more, all while keeping the culture of art alive. Drawing Artist Jean Michel Basquiat from scratch was one of the greatest decisions Artist Sophia Ramos could have made during her graduating year of middle school. “When creating my work I wanted to place Basquiat somewhere else in the world because it just feels like he knew so much and saw a lot.” -Ramos. Not only has Ramos been recognized for her achievement but she has won a cash prize for her astounding work and phenomenal efforts. We will always cheer for Ramos and support her dream as an artist. Special thanks to and Principal Edwards for giving our organization the opportunity to work with such talented students this school year.

Today we recognize the day that began with one magnificent Teacher, Mattie May Whyte Woodbridge made a difference in celebrating the culture of Education. While 1985 marked the first federally recognized day to honor teachers, the history of teacher appreciation runs far deeper.
Around 1944 during World War II, Arkansas teacher Mattie May Whyte Woodridge, an African American teacher, won “Outstanding Teacher of the Year” four years running and decided teachers should be honored for the contributions they make to society so she created Teacher Appreciation Day.
For nearly a decade Mattie May Whyte Woodridge wrote letters to every Governor in the United States and corresponded with politicians and leaders in Education. One of many letters reached First Lady Elenor Rosevelt who helped support and proclaim a day to honor the selfless efforts of the nation’s Teachers. Later the National Education Association, continuing to celebrate Teacher Day each year, teamed up with the National Parent Teacher Association in 1985. Together, the groups decided that not only should teachers be honored one day each year, but that a full week would be needed to honor the importance of educators. Since then, National Teachers’ Week is observed the first full week of May, and National Teachers’ Day on that Tuesday and is now officially a US holiday.
