⚠️ Get ready for some harsh truth

By my standards, optimal amount of ANIMAL protein in a dog’s diet is 75-85%. Cats are even more carnivorous and 90-95% of their diet should be ANIMAL protein.

Commercial dog food is only required to include 22% protein BUT this can include protein from plant matter that is not as digestible. A study brought to my attention by Dogs First showed of protein stated in the kibble, less than 75% of it was actually available to the animal. Krogdahl et al. (2004) tested a range of different dry food diets. They found that Eukanuba Puppy stated 27.9% protein, only 20.3% was actually available; Proplan Puppy stated 26.2% protein, only 20.1% was available to the test animals; Royal Canin Puppy stated 21.7% protein, only 16.7% was available; Hill’s Puppy stated 26.8% protein, only 20.8% was available to the animal.

Big pet food companies use less animal protein because it’s expensive and they want to make more money, but you physically can’t make an extruded kibble with 75% animal protein using current manufacturing and processing techniques. I took a kibble manufacturing course at KSU to learn the process myself.

Just made a fresh batch of Dr. Judy Morgan’s veggie mix from her Yin & Yang book with a couple variations due to availability. Great idea to have ready in amounts you’ll use when making your own dog food or just supplementing your commercial food. Adding real foods that are not too processed is a great benefit to your dog’s health!

🚨 If you know your dog has been poisoned with xylitol you need to act fast ... and get your dog to a vet for an intra-muscular shot of glutathione, explained here.

⚠️ Xylitol is quickly absorbed into the bloodstream. This causes a potent release of insulin from the pancreas. This rapid release of insulin results in a profound drop in the level of blood sugar (hypoglycemia). And it can happen within 10 to 60 minutes of ingestion. Untreated, hypoglycemia is often life-threatening.

But if liver failure or a bleeding disorder develops, the prognosis is not good. Most dogs who develop liver problems don’t make it.

That's where glutathione comes in. It's the "king of antioxidants" and is found in every cell. The highest level of glutathione exists in the liver. It’s no accident that the liver is the major organ of detoxification and desperately needs its glutathione to stay healthy ... especially in poisoning emergencies like this.

Glutathione must be injected directly ... giving it orally doesn't work as it'll be broken down during digestion.

So before it becomes an emergency ... find a pharmacy to prepare an injection for you. Then you can take it to your vet or emergency clinic to give it to your dog.

What type of dog water bowl do you use? 🐶💧

The dog water bowl has previously been identified as the third most contaminated🦠 item within the household and can be a breeding ground for dangerous germs & life-threatening bacteria🧫 that can put the entire house at risk, researchers at University Centre Hartpury have revealed.

So, which dish is best to use for a dog water bowl? The bowl that grows the least amount of life-threatening bacteria!

In the first study of its’ kind, Hartpury scientists found stainless steel grew the least amount of bacteria and over time, plastic bowls grew the highest amount, but the shocking part was the most harmful bacterial species (including salmonella, E. coli and MRSA) were most frequently identified in CERAMIC bowls!

Lead can also be a problem when using ceramic bowls, and the endocrine disrupting chemicals found in plastic bowls are a no-go! Also be aware plastic bowls🥣 can cause Plastic Dish Nasal Dermatitis🙀: Chemicals in plastic absorb through the skin and inhibit the synthesis of melanin, leaving the nose👃🏼 and adjacent areas with pink blotches.

So stainless steel🍴 bowls are the safest, right?

Well not so fast…. there’s even been recalls on stainless bowls😫. In our upcoming The Forever Dog book, in the chapter titled Environmental Impact and the section labelled “Toxic Toys, Chews, and Beds", we cover how to choose the best chemical-free bowls🚫 that won’t leach contaminants over time. The Forever Dog is available now for pre-order, worldwide, check out the www.ForeverDog.com/about

Walnuts are said to be toxic to pets, but that’s actually false! ❌ They offer many benefits to cats and dogs, thanks to their phytochemicals and other nutrients. 🤩 So if you have raw, unsalted and shelled walnuts, don’t hesitate to share them with your animal companion.

Here are the rules before sharing walnuts with your pet:

✅ Remove the shell.
✅ Break them into small pieces.
✅ Make sure the nuts do not have any mold. Molds that can grow on these nuts and on their tough, outer casings contain tremorgenic mycotoxins, which can be dangerous to all of us, if consumed.

In Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine, garlic is indicated for Food Stagnation, cancer, diabetes, and asthma. Most commonly, garlic is used for natural prevention of parasites like fleas and ticks. It enters the spleen, lung, stomach, heart, liver and large intestine channels. Garlic is sweet, salty and pungent. It tonifies Yang (adds warmth to the body) and promotes energy circulation which is especially helpful for senior pets that have a hard time getting going in the morning. Garlic resolves dampness, resolves phlegm, promotes both healthy digestion and intestinal flora, helps eliminate toxins, expels Wind, and is especially good for Wind cold.

Garlic can be beneficial for both dogs and cats in appropriate doses. I use fresh crushed cloves.
🐱 For cats: 1/4 clove (crushed) daily, 3-4 days per week.
🐶 For dogs: 1/2 clove (crushed) per 20 pounds of body weight daily, with a maximum of 3 cloves. Best to take at least 1 day per week off.
*Please make sure to note the difference between a clove and a bulb/head of garlic.

Not recommended for puppies and kittens. Long term use is contraindicated in pets with vision issues. If your pet has a history of anemia, it would be safer to avoid use of garlic in any form.

Woof Creek | Flea + Tick Defense is a supplement containing garlic that naturally repels fleas, ticks, mosquitoes, available here: https://drjudymorgan.com/products/woof-creek-flea-tick-defense
