Children ages 5-12 are invited to join Macomb County MSU Extension 4-H for A Day in the Garden at the Max Thompson Community Center in Warren from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. on Tuesdays, July 16-August 27 to learn about gardening practices, basic tool use, crafts, yoga in the garden, health and nutrition, mindfulness and more. Attend one or more sessions.

MSU Extension is offering Sparty Summer Camp at the Max Thompson Community Center in Warren from August 5-9, 2024. Campers will meet from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. each day to experience fun, educational activities in the areas of gardening, health and nutrition, and STEAM. Youth ages 9-12 can sign up for archery. Lunch and snacks are included.

The Macomb County 4-H Youth Council is hosting its annual fundraisers at the Armada Fair. All 4-H clubs participating in the Armada Fair are expected to volunteer for a coffee cart/shaving sales shift, as well as a Still Exhibit Barn shift. Clubs will earn $50 per shift worked. Individual 4-H members and volunteers who would like to volunteer for extra shifts may sign up to do so after their club has signed up. 4-H members who work extra shifts will earn educational dollars to be used for 4-H events such as 4-H Exploration Days, 4-H National Congress, 4-H statewide shows, etc.

The Armada Fair Poultry and Meat Rabbit Tagging is Sunday, July 21, 2024 at the Armada Fairgrounds Barn 16 from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. If you have any questions, please reach out to Macomb County 4-H Program Coordinator Rebecca Konarski at [email protected].
Macomb County 4-H has been given a table at the Farmer's Market at the John F. Kennedy Knights of Columbus in Clinton Township. If you or your club are interested in using the table to promote 4-H, talk about your projects, run an activity, sell your 4-H club's products or fundraise for your club, contact Macomb County 4-H Program Coordinator Lizz Duran, 586-469-6090, or Office Manager Carolyn Doak, 586-469-5816.

Host Families Still Needed Now! We need your help matching the Japanese youth coming to Michigan to fulfill their dream of a summer lifetime family experience!
We have nine more Japanese youth participants left and need to place with host families ASAP!!!
A host family needs to complete the Statesβ 4-H International Exchange Programs online application, have a youth to match (Japanese ages 13-17 years) as a host brother/sister (be within 3 years of age), adults in the home be Michigan 4-H adult Gold Volunteers, participate in an interview and home visit process. Applications to host can be found at www.states4hexchange.org

The 2024 Michigan 4-H Horse Show is August 16-18 at MSU in East Lansing. Youth may now register, order t-shirts, enter camping reservations and pay online. Alternates should select the check payment option when registering. Details and instructions have been emailed to Macomb County 4-H Horse Project families.

Michigan State University Extension is excited to partner with the Michigan State Fair again this year on this exciting program for all Michigan youth ages 5-19. The virtual platform provides a great opportunity for youth to exhibit their work in all project areas and apply for $10,000 in scholarships. Swine, Sheep, Goat & Prospect Beef tagging is June 2, 2024 at the Armada Fairgrounds in Armada (Swine 8-10:30 a.m. and Sheep, Goat & Prospect Beef 10:30 a.m.-noon).
The Livestock Committee has decided to offer an evening tagging due to many of our 4-H members showing at the Thumb Jackpot on June 2, 2024, This will only be for those attending the Thumb Jackpot & proof of participation will be needed. To take advantage of this optional time, please notify the Livestock Committee at [email protected] by June 1st.
Macomb County 4-H youth ages 5-19 are invited to explore woodworking with the Macomb County 4-H Youth Council at the VerKuilen Building in Clinton Township on Friday, June 14th. Choose a half-hour time slot between 6 and 8 p.m. Participants will be making a whirligig bird lawn ornament. This is a beginning woodworking project that can be customized.

Join MSU Extension for the Clovers Code 4-H SPIN Club at the Ray Township Library, on June 5, 12 and 26 from 6-8 p.m. Participants ages 7-12 will learn how to code, capture photos and videos, and create art using iPads. It's FREE. Registration is required: https://tinyurl.com/2br7brnv.

COMMUNITY SERVICE OPPORTUNITY: Wolcott Mill Metropark Farm Center, 65775 Wolcott Road in Ray Township, is in need of volunteers to pull weeds and help prep its garden area for its Spring Festival. The Michigan 4-H and FFA Livestock Judging State Contest is June 26, 2024, and registration is now open! While the dates no longer coincide with Michigan Livestock Expo, this contest WILL still count as an educational experience for the MLE Premiere Stockman Award! The Spring Paper Clover campaign at Tractor Supply Co. (TSC) has been extended to May 12th. Purchase a Paper Clover for $1 in-store or online to support 4-H. Macomb County has TSC stores in New Haven, Washington and Richmond.
In an effort to reach her environmental project goals, Macomb County 4-H member Nathanya F. will be planting trees with the Warren Parks & Recreation Department at Ridgewood Park in Warren on May 4th at 9 a.m. Any 4-H club or member who would like to take part in this effort to improve our community is welcome to join us.
