We had a lot of fun lion dancing for the grand opening of Imperial Garden 2 over on Herndon and Cedar. Check out their restaurant. It’s right across from Nho Kitchen 2.

Intermediate kids class moving up! They all got their second star! Finished their straight sword set and now onto 2 man staff. Let’s see well they do with a weapon trying to strike them.

It is with a heavy heart to inform you all that I will be retiring as Sifu at Long Fist Kung Fu Association the end of this year. I’ve been a Kung Fu practitioner since 1992 and made my way up from student to Sihing and finally Sifu. My career as a program manager in nurse education has opened more opportunities to advance and will require more time and focus. We have already started the transition of leadership as Sihing Luan has agreed to keep the school opened to carry on our legacy of Long Fist Kung Fu and Chinese Lion Dancing in the Central Valley. All my students will hold a special place in my heart, and I look forward to seeing progress on your Kung fu journey.

We had a full house today! Thank you to all our students and their family and friends that came to our annual Summer Bonanza!

Thank you to everyone who came to our Lion dotting ceremony today! We greatly appreciate your time and being apart of this special day. As a small Kung fu school we don’t get new lions very often. Celebrating this moment with everyone means a lot. Proud of our team on this awesome performance today as well! Thank you for leading the dotting ceremony with us today. Thank you for helping us get these lions as well! They are ready to be used. The question is where will the first lion dance be with our new lions!?! Who’s ready?

Don’t forget to bring the family to our Annual summer Bonanza! Starts at 12pm with our Lion Dotting Ceremony at 12:30pm! Bring some food for our pot luck.

We had a small in house tournament today with our students to compete against each other for trophies that were won back in early 1990s by Sifu Reggie.

Excited for our 2 new students in our kids class! They just got their white belts and ready to start their kung fu journey. Congrats to our new stars in the adult class as well. Test day coming soon!

An Eye Ceremony is a process where life is given to the lion by placing red dots on its eyes, mirror, and mouth. Giving the lion its spirit to scare away evil spirits and to bring good fortune, health, and prosperity.
We will also be having our yearly Summer Bonanza potluck the same day.

Amazing time at the ITKFA tournament. Here are some pictures of the beginning ceremony.

The team brought home some medals! 8 total! 4 gold, 1 silver, & 3 bronze! We are proud of everyone who competed! It’s not easy to put yourself out there and perform in front of an audience. But to be judged, scored, and compared by everyone is a different type of pressure. First time competing for some of these students and it’s a great experience to have.
Thank you for hosting such a great tournament and providing an opportunity for students to test their skills.

Did you know during the lion dance, when a lion eats Lettuce and throws it back at you it’s good luck? So next time you see a lion eating lettuce, make sure you’re in its line of sight 😉
