California Women for Agriculture - Coachella Valley held their monthly meeting at RDO Equipment Co in Indio. Indio and Coachella High School FFA officers and their ag teachers were our dinner guests. Career opportunities for the ag students were highlighted throughout the evening. Riverside County Ag Liaison Deputy Pasch was also in attendance and talked about his responsibilities in the ag community making sure the farmers, employees, and the residents are safe. Thank you Thermal Sheriff's Station for all that you do!

It's National Fig Week! Fun fact: Unlike other tree fruits or nuts, fig trees have no blossoms on their branches; the flowers are inverted and actually develop inside the fruit. These many tiny flowers produce the crunchy little seeds which give figs their unique texture.

Dr. Thulin is retiring and will be missed. Coachella Valley is home to many Cal Poly alumni and many are members of Growing Coachella Valley. 2023 CA Economic Summit attendees attended an agriculture tour in the Eastern Coachella Valley. They got a rare glimpse of how the crops are irrigated with Colorado River water, how crops are monitored and treated for pests, experimental trials, and date harvest. They also learned about the real threat Coachella Valley farmers are facing with foreign imports. The tour ended with a nice lunch at Shields Date Garden in Indio.
