The intern for a day program at the University Career Center connects UMD undergraduate students with alumni, parents, and employers for job shadowing or virtual informational interviewing experiences to explore career fields.

Students must complete an orientation and application and will then be matched with an employer for a job shadowing experience or virtual interview.

What Happens Next? 🤔 Enroll in our mandatory online orientation. The orientation opens on the morning of Monday, September 16, and the deadline to complete orientation is Sunday, October 7th @ 11:59 pm. 🕑 Review the list of professionals available to you and determine who you would like to prefer for your application! If you complete the mandatory orientation requirement by 11:59 p.m. on October 7, Intern for a Day applications will be sent to you on Tuesday, October 8. ✔️

Complete the application by Monday, October 14, at 11:59 p.m., and the IFAD team will start matching students with hosts the next day and throughout the week. 📰

A big congrats to Daniel Feliciano! Both as a May 2024 graduating 🎓 Senior and a grad snap raffle prize winner.

Daniel is a College of Agriculture & Natural Resources - University of Maryland and Department of Geographical Sciences at the University of Maryland student earning a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science and Technology: Natural Resource Management with a minor in remote sensing for environmental change.

So, what are Daniel's career tips for other students?

"Experience has been a huge part of building my resume! I have joined a professional environmental frat and took on a leadership position at the Community Learning Garden on campus which helped further my professional career. UMD offers lots of great resources and opportunities so make sure to take advantage of them while you are still here. As a 2-year transfer student, I made it my goal to get involved in as much as I could before graduating, you'd be surprised how much you can accomplish in just 2 years as long as you stay committed, focused, and eager to learn and improve."

Congrats again, Daniel, we're rooting for your success and applauding your career journey! 🎓👏

🎓👏📷🐢

Last week we partnered with the Senior Experience . This UMD student organization strives to create a positive senior experience, prepare students for post-graduation life, and make an everlasting affinity between graduates and the University of Maryland, for an evening celebration to commemorate our May 2024 graduating seniors!

For the students, we served a delicious food menu, including ice cream 🍦from the Maryland Dairy, free swag items, and entry into a raffle to win prizes such as a UMD alumni baseball cap, mug, and a diploma frame.

We also provided the seniors with free professional photos, including an option to wear graduation 🎓 cap and gowns provided by the UMD Bookstore to commemorate their big day and to share their experience with their family and friends.

Our staff was also present to offer the seniors career help as they start transitioning to post-grad life and assist with the UMD graduation survey.

Collaboration with student groups is one way we can fearlessly move our students' careers forward, and we are grateful to Senior Experience for trusting us to help celebrate our May 2024 graduating senior .

TOMORROW IS GIVING DAY!

Let's support undergraduate students in their career journey; consider giving to our Bright Futures Scholarship!

The Bright Futures Internship Scholarship Fund was launched in 2009 by the University Career Center & The President’s Promise. The fund provides University of Maryland undergraduate students with need-based scholarships to help offset expenses associated with participating in an unpaid internship.

At the University of Maryland, internships are essential to academic growth, linking classroom theories with practical experience, providing a competitive advantage in the job market. With 95% of employers valuing hands-on experience during recruitment, according to the National Association of Colleges and Employers, are more than a luxury - they're a necessity. Remarkably, 50% to 60% of eligible convert to full-time employees, reinforcing the importance of these experiences for

The University of Maryland cherishes the importance of internships in shaping the future of every undergraduate. Yet, we understand that the financial strain of unpaid internships can often be overwhelming. The Bright Futures initiative, graciously supported by the generous Eisen Family, the University Career Center & The President's Promise, and kind donors like yourself during Giving Day, alleviates this burden. It offers financial aid to students embarking on unpaid or minimally paid internships, thus rendering these pivotal opportunities within everyone's reach.
