Aggieland is a place of growth and lasting impact. John J. DeShazo Jr. ’49 embodied the Aggie Spirit throughout his career in traffic and transportation engineering.

To honor his legacy, his son Chuck DeShazo ’87 and friends established the John J. DeShazo Jr. ’49 Memorial Endowed Scholarship. John's journey from Texas A&M to becoming Amarillo’s first traffic engineer and a mentor to many reflects his dedication. Chuck, inspired by his father's legacy, hopes future Aggie engineers will be empowered to excel and embrace lifelong learning.

Graduating with three degrees in nuclear engineering, he now serves as the chief technology and innovation officer at Medtronic. Ken's journey from an ambitious student to a visionary leader earned him the 2024 Black Engineer of the Year award. The human circulatory system is adapted to Earth's gravity, but in microgravity, blood shifts upward, causing changes in the cardiovascular system. To study these effects on the moon, "Aggie Echo," a team of seniors from , is creating a sponsored wearable ultrasound collar to document blood flow. Their design, which earned top honors in the Texas Space Grant Consortium Design Competition, is easy to use and takes high-quality readings. Congrats to Aggie Echo for their innovative work! 🚀🌕

Traylor’s ‘82 journey has been electrifying! ⚡ Co-op programs and hard work were the pillars of Steven’s education, leading to impactful roles at Houston Lighting and Power, Shell Oil, and eventually ExxonMobil. 💼💡 The values instilled at guided Steven through 38 years of diverse and rewarding careers. 🎓💼 From radio systems engineering to crude oil trading, each role shaped Steven professionally and personally.

Growing up on a farm, Robert "Bob" Hlozek ’61 found his passion in the petrochemical industry. As a first-generation Aggie, he majored in the Artie McFerrin Department of Chemical Engineering at Texas A&M University, becoming deeply involved in campus life. After graduating in 1961, Hlozek enjoyed a successful career, working for major companies like Enron and Dow Chemical, and even started his own consulting firm.

Hlozek's love for Aggieland never wavered. He actively supports the Aggie Network, volunteers on campus, and established an endowed scholarship for chemical engineering students from his hometown. His dedication to selfless service and gratitude continues to inspire future generations.
