Ohio Child Care Resource & Referral Association
OCCRRA supports the leadership & staff of our CCR&R member agencies through training and activities.
The Ohio Child Care Resource & Referral Association (OCCRRA) is a non-profit member association serving Ohio's seven local child care resource and referral agencies (CCR&Rs). Statewide programs under OCCRRA's direction, such as the Ohio Professional Registry and T.E.A.C.H. Early Childhood® OHIO, provide services for professionals who work directly with children. OCCRRA participates in state–level efforts aimed at improving policies that impact early care, learning, and afterschool services.

Don't forget, daylight savings ends this weekend! Why is the daylight savings transition challenging for children? Children thrive on schedule and routine; this means when they experience things that feel out of the ordinary, it can feel overwhelming. To alleviate the challenging transition, talk with your child(ren) about what changes they can expect related to time change such as, when it will be light and dark outside.

Addressing Trauma in Children on "World Mental Health Day."
Trauma can involve actual or perceived threats to the safety and well-being of a child, or to someone close to them. These experiences result in feelings of fear and helplessness. These are normal responses to disturbing events, not signs of weakness.
A child can be affected at any developmental stage, beginning at infancy. Some children recover quickly, while others have more extreme reactions. For some, the response is immediate; for others, it is delayed. These reactions may have wide ranging effects on a child’s physical health, emotional responses, behaviors and school success.
Children need to know that they’re safe and that people care and will help them through whatever events they have experienced. Caregivers, teachers and service providers should be trauma-informed and sensitive to a child’s needs.
The Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services understands the importance of addressing traumatic experiences in children. Take a look at the framework provided for various resources that may fit your families and your child's needs.https://mha.ohio.gov/static/learnandfindhelp/TreatmentServices/TCC/Framework-for-TCC.pdf

Listening to and creating music helps children learn numeracy, literacy and emotional skills. Incorporating music into routines and play in the early years has a positive influence on your child's early development. It can get them moving, thinking and inspire creativity.
Congratulations to Apollo's Early Childhood Education students for participating in Ohio’s Health and Human Services Signing Day! October 5th marks World Teachers Day and Ohio's Fall Signing Day. We recognize high school juniors and senior as they commit to 120 training hours this academic year for their CDA Credential.
While October is officially designated as "Diversity Month," the celebration and acknowledgement of diversity should be recognized and supported year-round. As professionals in early learning environments, it is critical that we consistently embody and demonstrate inclusive habits and continue to shine a positive light on diversity.
