The Makers Hub

We work with Compton residents to provide:
•Tools
•Workshops
•Space for our community to thrive

Our first project is to build a Makerspace in Compton - "COMPTON MAKERS HUB". We are starting phase #1 with a ComptonTool Library so we can get tools into the hands of the community more quickly. We will steadily add DIY and making classes, equipment, space and increase the capacity of community makers Inventors, and aspiring entrepreneurs.

We’re ramping up to serve even more community members! See what we did there?

When we said we want our programs and services to be accessible to everyone, we really meant it. And that includes our building. Making sure that the Tool Library is accessible was intentionally part of the plan, not an after thought.

We developing programming, strategy and everything in between, we add steps to check for inclusivity and accessibility. From translating materials to accessibility features on our building, it’s incorporated into everything we do.

The Makers Hub is proud to say that inclusivity is one of our core values and we don’t just talk the talk.

Head to https://buff.ly/3WLv3lE to learn more about our values and how we incorporate them into our daily operations!

We had a blast!

Founder, Adrianne, and volunteer, David, headed out to this amazing event to support the community while spreading the word about The Makers Hub! From networking to building community, we were able to connect with countless people doing great things in our city.

As a new organization, we are always excited to attend events like this as a chance to connect with even more of YOU. We want everyone to know who we are, what we do, and how we can better serve their needs.

Big shout out to David for capturing pictures and videos of the event! Our volunteers are truly making a difference in our organization and helping us move closer towards our mission.

We can’t wait for the next event!

We recently launched our first workshops and welcomed feedback.

Although many people were excited for the topics being covered, the overwhelming feedback was, “It’s too expensive.”

With that response, we went back to the drawing board. Our team spent weeks reevaluating the budget and figuring out where we could cut costs to lower the prices of our workshops for participants.

Through generous donations from companies like Swinerton and some serious budget cuts, we are working towards lowering the costs of our workshops to be more accessible and affordable. When we said we listen to the community, we meant it.

Stay tuned for more updates as we continue to prepare our workshops for the community!

We need your help to expand our sewing resources at The Makers Hub Tool Library. We're looking for donations of sewing-specific materials to help our community create and mend with ease.

Your donations will empower local makers to explore their creativity and learn new skills.

Drop off your donations during our operating hours:

So if you’ve seen this tin under a coffee table or the back of a closet, take a look inside and see if there’s anything you can donate.

Together, we can build a stronger community!

Hot off the (digital) presses!

The Makers Hub and our Founder, Adrianne, were featured in ShoutoutLA !

In this feature, Adrianne told the story of how The Makers Hub got started and the lightbulb moment that would turn into who we are today. We were also able to highlight some of our favorite local Compton spots in the article including Alma Backyard Farms, Patria Coffee and Color Compton!

We are so grateful to ShoutoutLA to sharing our story and spreading more awareness of all we’re aiming to do in the community.

Look, home repairs are expensive. There’s no way around it.

From getting a drain cleaned for $100 to spending $250+ to replace a faucet, it adds up quick!

The good news is, a lot of these tasks can be done yourself with a little training and guidance. And that’s exactly what we’re teaching at our upcoming Plumbing 101 Workshop!

For $25, you’ll gain the knowledge to do various simple repairs on your own with the only cost being parts and your time. We’re huge fans of DIY, but we will also be teaching when it’s time to call the professionals. Sometimes it’s best to leave it to the expert.

🗓️ Date: September 15
🕒 Time: 1pm to 3pm
📍 Location: 2125 W. Compton Blvd, Compton, CA 90220

The glow up is real!

Our building was definitely a fixer-upper when we signed the lease in 2022, but we accepted the challenge! With the immense contributions of Swinerton, we were able to completely the transform our building to a resource for the community.

As a small nonprofit, we are tremendously grateful for all of the support from donors, volunteers, and community members. We honestly couldn’t have done it without you all!

And huge shoutout to Unearth and Empower Communities for their contributions to this amazing mural! We’re still fan-girling over how beautiful it is.

Since officially opening our doors to the community we have been listening and taking notes to all of the feedback from residents.

We said it once and we’ll say it again: when the you speak, we listen.

We understand the concerns about lending out tools and equipment to the community. Yes, it involves some risk, but we believe that the amazing folks in our community deserve more opportunities and resources to succeed.

By opening The Makers Hub Tool Library, we’re empowering residents to take control of their projects, learn new skills, and build stronger connections. We trust in our community and are here to support you every step of the way!

We encourage you to reach out to us with insights, feedback and advice as we value collaboration!

Together, let’s create a space where everyone can thrive. 🌟

Just pass us the whole deck because we’re going to the Compton Tool Library...

It’s simple, honestly. Renting tools from big name stores can get incredibly expensive incredibly fast. We’re talking hundreds of dollars and sometimes even more depending on the project. In this economy???

The Compton Tool Library is head to bridge the cap by providing tools and resources that are accessible to the community. We’re local. We’re affordable. And we’re happy to serve.
