🏳️‍⚧️Today is Trans Day of Remembrance(TDoR) 🏳️‍⚧️

Today we honor our trans and gender nonconforming siblings who’s lives were lost to hate.

TDoR was founded in 1999 as a way to raise public awareness of the hate crimes that plague the trans community and to memorialize those who’ve died because of violence.

How can you participate in TDoR?
✨attend a vigil
✨donate to trans and LGBTQ organizations
✨read and share trans stories
✨educate yourself and those in your circle
✨call out problematic and hateful language

As practitioners, our main goal should be to make our treatment space a safe place for all bodies on our table.

Some special considerations we should inquire about during intake to ensure we’re providing the best treatment as possible:

✨binders: if our clients bind they’re more susceptible to thoracic outlet syndrome and intercostal overload
✨HRT: as with any medications we should be aware of how and where it’s being administered and treat accordingly
✨Surgeries: is the area healed? Can we access the scar tissue to free up space? Should we treat the area indirectly by treating secondarily affected soft tissue?

All of our clients deserve the same amount of care and respect. It costs us nothing to be kind and empathetic.

I recently had the opportunity to participate in the course "Good Massage Gone Bad - Recognizing the Red Flags" taught by Tina Hopkins, who has a book by the same name. I am thrilled to share my review of this invaluable training that equips us with the knowledge and skills to navigate uncomfortable situations and protect ourselves.
