Does your child love yogurt? Unsweetened Greek Yogurt is a dental super-food! Try adding toppings like fresh fruit or granola. Regardless of what you choose, don't forget to brush for 2 minutes, 2 times every day!
Make brushing special! Encourage independence by creating a reward system such as a sticker chart, a special song, or a small toy prize for brushing independently! Using motivating words and phrases is a great way to kickstart your child’s independence.
Does your child like blueberries? Blueberries are dental dynamos!
(1) They contain polyphenols, which studies have shown to be highly effective in fighting the bacteria that cause tooth decay.
(2) Blueberries are full of Vitamins C, K, and B – all of which help keep enamel strong.(3) And finally, they are full of antioxidants, keeping your gums happy and even helping prevent heart disease! As with all fruit, blueberries also contain sugar and acids, so it's best to drink plenty of water and brush two times every day. Comment and let us know if you're a blueberry family!
Enamel may be the strongest substance in your body, but it’s not invincible! One of the easiest ways to protect your child’s teeth is to replace sugary fruit juices with water. It’s also a good idea to rinse with water after eating to rinse away any particles. And of course, brushing for two minutes, twice a day and flossing daily is essential.
One of the essential steps in a lifetime of healthy smiles begins with a positive experience at a pediatric dental office. Parents can help by making an upcoming visit feel like a fun adventure. Avoid passing along your own dental fear by avoiding words like “shot,” drill,” “needle,” or “pain.” Stay positive, and it’s more likely that your child will too!
While sugar-packed chewing gum is terrible for your teeth, did you know that sugar-free gum can actually help keep teeth healthy? Chewing gum increases saliva, helping balance pH and wash away cavity-causing debris. And chewing gum with xylitol, a natural sugar substitute, has even been shown to prevent cavities.
We all love a sweet baby smile! Especially after those first teeth start to show! If your little one has tender gums, try gently rubbing the area with a clean, cool cloth or introduce a soft teething ring. Remember to bring your baby in for a visit by age one, or once the first tooth comes in, whichever occurs first!
It's officially Summer! We all know it's fun to sleep in, stay up late, and have as much fun as possible with friends, but don't forget about your teeth! Put together a "tooth care kit" that your children can quickly grab for sleepovers and last-minute outings. Keep up the excellent brushing routine by brushing twice a day for 2 minutes!
Did you know that one human mouth contains more bacteria than the number of people on Earth?! WOW! All the more reason to keep brushing! :)
If your child has gums that bleed easily or regularly have food debris between their teeth, they are not flossing daily. Another tell-tale sign is plaque forming between the teeth – where only floss can clean. Remind your child to floss once per day, supervise them to ensure they do it, and help them if they are too young to do it themselves. Regular flossing and brushing helps prevent cavities, tooth decay, and gum disease.
Everyone loves potato chips at a summer barbecue, but starchy foods can build up between your teeth, getting stuck in hard-to-reach places. Better options for munching include carrots, apples, and other cut-up veggies. You may be surprised to watch the veggies disappear when set out during play – even with the pickiest of eaters! Whatever your family snacks on, don't forget to brush for two minutes twice a day!
Wishing everyone a sparkling 4th of July! 🇺🇸✨ Celebrate with a smile as bright as the fireworks! Enjoy the festivities and stay safe!
Why did the doughnut go to the dentist? To get a filling! 😄 Celebrate International Joke Day with a smile!
The temporomandibular joints, called TMJ, are the joints and jaw muscles that make it possible to open and close your mouth, and there are several disorders that are associated with these joints. If you have chronic pain in your lower jaw area, you could have a problem with this complex group of muscles and bones. If you have questions, give us a call!
Recent studies have found that on any given day, a staggering 75% of Americans are chronically dehydrated. Not only is water great for overall health, but it is also fantastic for oral health. Water helps prevent cavities by washing away food debris and maintaining a proper oral pH balance.

Did you know that it's usually best to wait a few minutes after you eat before brushing? Certain foods, especially ones that are highly acidic and can make enamel soft. A quick rinse with water can help restore your mouth's pH and wash away any remaining food.
Good oral health begins earlier than you may think! Before teeth emerge, use a soft cloth to wipe your baby's gums gently. As the first tooth appears (usually around eight months), you can use a fingertip toothbrush or one with a small head, and soft bristles explicitly made for babies. Choose infant toothpaste and only use a light smear – about the size of a grain of rice.
The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD) recommends that you begin flossing as soon as your child develops two teeth close to each other. It’s important to floss for your child until he or she has enough dexterity to begin doing it themselves – typically around the same time that shoe-tying is learned.
Did you know that cavity-causing bacteria can be transferred from one person to another through saliva? It is important to be aware of this when cleaning pacifiers and sharing spoons during feeding.
One of the most effective ways to get kids to brush regularly is by establishing a regular bedtime routine. Having a pattern means that as much as possible, doing the same thing every night. Your routine might be something simple as taking a bath, brushing your teeth, and reading a book. Kids (and adults!) thrive when they know what to expect. Establishing regular habits when children are young is the best way to prepare them for a lifetime of oral health.
Did you know that certain foods, medications, and even dry mouth can cause bad breath? However, persistent dry mouth can be a sign of larger issues such as periodontal disease. If your child has frequent bad breath it's probably time to give us a call!
Brushing *with* your child is a sure way to make certain that they are brushing regularly - and it models good oral health. Teach by example!
Studies show that people who brush and care for their teeth are at a lower risk for heart disease and cardiovascular problems. When children learn to take care of their oral health, they can establish habits that last a lifetime!
Did you know that craving and chewing ice can be a sign of iron deficiency or “pagophagia”? If the habit seems to be a compulsion, a doctor should be consulted. But even occasionally chewing ice should be avoided as it can fracture teeth, break sealants, and do harm to any existing dental work. Instead, stick to chewing healthy foods like carrots or celery. Sugar-free gum is a great substitute to kick the habit as well!
