Although you will get some nutrients from drinking juice, you lose a lot of the health benefits of actually eating the fruit or vegetable because you miss out on a lot of the fibers.

Some juices are also loaded with sugar. Some have 35 grams in an 8oz serving — about 8 teaspoons of sugar — which is the same amount as a regular soda.

100 percent fruit juice is preferable to those labeled “from concentrate” since they have minimal fruit content and lots of added sugar.

In Texas, grapefruit makes up a large portion of the citrus industry. They grow best commercially in the lower Rio Grande Valley.

Do you have exposed tree roots in your yard? Tree roots are often much shallower than most realize and as a tree matures, more exposed roots may begin to show.

A tree’s root system serves four primary functions – anchorage, absorption, storage and conduction. These functions play a critical role in the health of trees, so care should be taken to avoid injuring exposed roots, especially when mowing or trimming your lawn. Injuries to exposed roots can also become a point of entry for disease or decay.

The best solution to avoid injury is to cover the roots with mulch. Apply a thin layer (no more than 3 inches) of organic mulch under the tree’s canopy and over the exposed roots. Mulch not only protects the exposed roots from injury, but also provides other benefits like regulating soil temperatures, conserving water and improving soil health.
