Rising 2L Melanie Rey, vice president of Miami Law's Cuban American Bar Association chapter, spent her summer as a legal intern with Universal Music Latino in Miami Beach! Her responsibilities included reviewing & summarizing contracts, reviewing redlined agreements, correspondence, & other documents, drafting amendments, and legal research.
She adds, "When people see a music label, they typically think of the label, the artist, and their manager. We often don't think about the technical things and how many departments/people it takes to keep the label running. Learning the behind-the-scenes work it takes to release songs, collaborations, music videos, and cover artwork has been the most rewarding part of my experience.
This internship has given me practical experience beyond the classroom. I am learning how to draft and review contracts, as well as how to communicate efficiently with my team and the teams of other artists."

Rising 3L Patrick Roesser was a certified legal intern (CLI) with the Anchorage District Attorney's Office this summer. His responsibilities included speaking on behalf of the state daily for bond hearings, arrangements, and motions. As a CLI, he had the opportunity to give an opening statement & conduct a direct examination of a witness in a felony case, and write an opposition to a motion.
He adds, "In addition to being able to experience all that Alaska has to offer, my favorite part of this role has been going to the district court and speaking on behalf of the state for entire dockets. There have been times when I've had to come up with bond amounts and conditions on the fly. While I recognize that this is a big responsibility, the experience I gained working on my feet will significantly contribute to my future legal success. Additionally, the confidence I gained in the courtroom, talking to the judge, and in front of a jury will prove invaluable in my legal career."

This summer, rising 2L Brittany Findley is a judicial extern at the U.S. District Court, Northern District of Illinois. Her responsibilities include drafting opinions on motions for various claims, including a Fourth Amendment violation resulting in a false arrest and malicious prosecution and another claim regarding violating the Federal Labor Standards Act of 1938.
Brittany adds, "The most rewarding part of this externship is the education-focused environment that the judge and his law clerks have fostered. Initially, coming into law school, I was confident that I only wanted to be a transactional attorney; however, having the opportunity to observe a variety of civil and criminal proceedings has proven that I enjoy the structure of in-court and out-of-court litigation in which attorneys advocate relentlessly and to the best of their ability for their clients."
