Advanced maternal age is a well-known risk factor for high-risk pregnancies. However, adolescent mothers (aged 10–19 years) face risks as well, including eclampsia, puerperal endometritis and systemic infections. Their babies are also at increased risk of low birth weight, preterm birth and severe neonatal conditions compared to those born to mothers aged 20–24 years.

June is Intrahepatic Cholestasis of Pregnancy (ICP) awareness month. The liver condition only occurs during pregnancy and can put your baby at increased risk of preterm labor and delivery, meconium staining of the amniotic fluid, respiratory issues and stillbirth. The most prominent symptom of ICP is intense itching, often concentrated in the hands/wrists and ankles/feet. If you experience excessive itching during pregnancy, contact your provider right away. Feeling depressed, anxious or disconnected from your baby may be a sign of PPD. It can be hard to ask for what you need when you're suffering. Start with a trusted family member, friend or health care professional and ask for support. If you don't know what to ask for, tell them how you're feeling, and you can figure out what you need together.

Know the symptoms of : severe headache, swelling in the hands and face, visual issues, nausea and vomiting, stomach or abdomen pain, sudden weight gain and/or shortness of breath. Preeclampsia can occur in any pregnancy, so ALL moms need to know.

What is bronchopulmonary sequestration (BPS)?
BPS occurs when a mass of abnormal lung tissue forms in the fetal lungs. Sometimes, this is harmless and may resolve on its own. If the mass causes fluid to build up in the chest, it can become life-threatening if not addressed. Early detection and intervention is key. Postpartum depression can be isolating. The truth is that PPD is common among new parents.
Here are some practical tips for creating a supportive environment if you see a loved one struggling with PPD.
• Take on daily household and childcare tasks
• Prepare meals, pick up groceries or buy supplies for the baby
• Encourage her to take time for self-care and to take breaks while you care for the child
• Be attentive and calm, and listen and respond to her needs
