We absolutely adore receiving these heartwarming messages following a Tryke giveaway. It warms our hearts to witness the love and excitement that a child experiences when they receive their Tryke. Their joy is so contagious that they can hardly contain their excitement, eagerly rushing to share the incredible news with their therapist. At Lakeside Ambucs, we are immensely passionate about the work we do, and these moments of pure joy and happiness remind us why we love what we do so much. They serve as a constant reminder of the impact we have on the lives of children and their families.

Lakeside Ambucs is a remarkable organization that extends a helping hand to families in need, particularly those with children facing mobility challenges. Their mission is to make a positive impact on these families and the community as a whole.

Let me share a heartwarming story that exemplifies the impact of Ambucs. It all started when Patricia Hernandez, came across a news story on Univision about a child who had tragically lost both his legs. Touched by this story, Patricia immediately felt compelled to find a way to assist this family. She shared her concerns with Julian and together they devised a plan to offer a solution.

Being part of Lakeside Ambucs, I knew our family had access to a powerful resource – specialized tricycles called trykes. Lakeside Ambucs decided to gift one of these trykes to Caleb, the young boy mentioned in the news story. This tryke would provide Caleb with the incredible experience of mobility and independence, despite his physical limitations.

Caleb's family has became more than just recipients of a tryke – they became part of the Ambucs Family. This highlights the strong sense of community and support that Ambucs fosters. They not only provide the necessary equipment but also create a network of understanding and empathy.

Ambucs goes above and beyond to ensure that the children they assist continue to receive the support they need as they grow. For instance, when Caleb outgrows his current tryke, Ambucs will upgrade him to the next appropriate model, ensuring his continued mobility and enjoyment.

The ability of Ambucs to help families and the community is made possible by the resources they are grateful to have. They recognize and appreciate the support they receive, and attribute it to a higher power, thanking God for enabling them to make a difference in the lives of families through the provision of trykes.

In summary, Ambucs is an organization that not only provides physical support to families with mobility challenges but also creates a sense of belonging and community. Their dedication to improving the lives of these families is truly inspiring, and they continue to make a positive impact through their ongoing efforts.

πŸ“£ Exciting News! πŸš²πŸ’™

Friday, we had the incredible opportunity to deliver a Tryke to a loving family from Farmers Branch. This amazing family was introduced to Ambucs through their therapist at Children's Hospital. The parents were so thrilled with the Tryke that the therapist immediately connected them with Lakeside Ambucs, who generously gifted them one of their own. Witnessing the joy on the recipients' faces when they receive their free Tryke is truly heartwarming.

If you're a therapist or a family in need of a Tryke, don't hesitate to reach out to our club. We're here to help and guide you through the process. And if you're a business or individual looking to get involved with Lakeside Ambucs, we'd love to hear from you! Together, we can make a difference in the lives of those who deserve it most.

If you own a business and would like to organize a Tryke giveaway, we'd be thrilled to collaborate with you. Let us know, and let's spread the joy of cycling to even more families in need.

Last night at our Lakeside Ambucs meeting, the dynamic trio of Cliff, Abby Masters, and David Hanna flexed their DIY muscles and built a fabulous Tryke! The rest of us were in awe, watching their engineering prowess unfold. Meanwhile, Rick Lucas, the master of all things delicious, kept our energy levels up with his pizza power-ups. We can't wait to hit the road and deliver these Trykes over the weekend and in the months to come. AMBUCS is all about bringing joy and mobility to those in need, one Tryke at a time. Stay tuned for more epic adventures!

Who Is Ambucs?

AMBUCS boasts a strong membership base of over 4,000 individuals spread across more than 150 chapters in over 30 states. These dedicated members actively engage in grassroots initiatives to fulfill the organization's mission. They contribute to the community through various service projects, provide scholarships for therapists, and promote inclusivity through the Amtryke Adaptive Tricycle program.

Photos from Lakeside Ambucs's post 02/20/2024

What’s the History of the Amtryke:

In the early 1990s, Sue Haywood, a pediatric physical therapist in Texas, was concerned about the high cost of adaptive tricycles. She noticed the positive impact that using a tricycle had on her patients in terms of strength, tone, and self-confidence, even during short periods of use. Sue envisioned the potential benefits if each child had access to their own tricycle.

Sue shared her frustration with members of the local Longview AMBUCS chapter, an organization focused on inspiring mobility and independence. Gene Allen, a member of the chapter, offered the use of his fabrication shop to help build the tricycles.

With the support of the chapter, Sue and other volunteers began building and providing free adaptive tricycles to Sue's patients and other children with disabilities in the community. The success of the project led the Longview chapter to present it at the AMBUCS National Conference in 1995. The presentation received enthusiastic applause, and the organization voted to make the Amtryke Program a nationwide project.

Today, there are approximately 5,000 AMBUCS members across 157 chapters, serving in over 36 states. Many chapters choose to support the mission by providing Amtryke adaptive tricycles to individuals in their communities. Physical and occupational therapists continue to play a vital role in the program, working with local chapters to identify children who would benefit from an adaptive tricycle and ensuring they are correctly and safely fitted with the best Amtryke for their needs. Therapists often become chapter members, and many chapters are formed with therapists at their core.

How Did Ambucs Start?
In 1919, William L. White graduated from Auburn University with a dream of establishing a national service organization for young business and professional men. However, he faced a major obstacle: a lack of funding for such a significant endeavor.

To overcome this challenge, White seized an unexpected opportunity in the form of the turpentine industry in Valdosta, GA. The industry utilized turpentine cups to collect crude resin from long-leaf pines, which was then distilled to produce turpentine and rosin. White saw this as an opportunity and began selling turpentine cups.

With the profits from selling turpentine cups, White quickly accumulated $1,000, which he used to establish the first American Business Club in Birmingham on May 18, 1922. This inaugural club consisted of 50 members who adopted a constitution and embraced the motto that still resonates today – "Shoulders Together."
