Promise House

Promise House embraces homeless, runaway, and at-risk teens, giving them skills, support, encouragement, and hope for a better life.

When Laquita first came to Promise House, she enrolled in our Pathways to Motherhood (formerly MGH) program at our Dallas location, Wesley Inn. Because of the resources and programs, like Pathways to Motherhood, that Promise House provides, Laquita, and thousands of other youth like her, are moved out of crisis and toward safety and success.

Without donor support, we cannot continue to provide crisis intervention, transitional housing, pregnancy and parenting support, counseling, street outreach, and education services to the youth who need us most.

For decades, Promise House has provided homeless youth with the resources they needed. This year, we are strengthening our programs to focus on youth ages 18-24. Youth like Laquita, who, without Promise House is certain that she would be “dead or in prison”.

Laquita, who is a proud mother of three children, proud grandmother of six grandchildren, owner of “Gentle Hands School of Phlebotomy,” and longtime employee at the VA where she works in the mental health department and assists veterans who are experiencing homelessness, is just one example of the life-changing impact that Promise House has on the youth we serve.

Donor generosity fuels our ability to serve the vulnerable youth who need us most. Please consider making a donation to help youth like Laquita today. bit.ly/PromiseHouse2023

Recently, Promise House shifted our programs to focus on youth ages 18-24.
The reason for this shift is simple:

"The latest Point in Time (PIT) annual census counted 194 youth ages 18-24 experiencing homelessness in Dallas and Collin counties. Despite the overall decrease in homelessness since 2022, youth experiencing homelessness actually increased during this same time period. We believe this increase in homelessness underscores the critical need for more targeted solutions to serve Dallas' youth."

Your gift today will enable us to continue and expand the services we offer through our Promise House Welcome Center (formerly EYS), Pathways to Independence (formerly TLP) and Pathways to Motherhood programs (formerly MGP). Click here to make your gift today: bit.ly/PromiseHouse2023

According to national statistics, 30-43% of all homeless youth in shelters identify as le***an, gay, bisexual, or transgender. And last year, 45% of the homeless youth we served at Promise House identified as LGBTQIA+. These young people are more likely to drop out of high school, develop physical and mental health disorders, and grow into chronically homeless adults.

At Promise House, we are proud to serve youth who are members of the LGBTQIA+ community through programs like Promise House Welcome Center (formerly EYS), Pathways to Independence (formerly TLP), and Pathways to Motherhood (formerly MGP).

For almost 40 years, Promise House has moved youth in crisis toward safety and success. As we embark on our 40th year, we are strengthening our services by sharpening our focus to serve youth ages 18-24. Youth like Laquita Jackson.

For decades, Promise House has provided homeless youth with the resources they needed. At the core of our approach is Trauma-Informed Care. All of our programs will continue to use trauma-informed care as a guiding principle.

Reshunda Morrow, Director of Housing Resources at Promise House, says, “Trauma-informed care recognizes and acknowledges a youth’s past struggles and experiences. Through this process, Promise House is able to provide the best care through healing, trauma interventions, and assessments to better meet the needs of youth and ensure their success in the program.”

This is especially evident in our counseling program. Counseling has changed the lives of many of our youth, like Laquita. Of her counselor, Laquita says, “He saw where I was angry, he saw how I sabotaged myself, he saw where I was empty. He saw me and heard me crying out for help. He listened. No one else would.”

When Laquita first came to Promise House, she enrolled in our Pathways to Motherhood (formerly MGP) program at our Dallas location, Wesley Inn. Today, as a mother and a grandmother, Laquita is even more grateful to Promise House for helping her when she needed it most. Of her children and grandchildren, she says, “I am proud of them. I’m blessed to see them, blessed to be here and to be a part of their lives.”

We are committed to moving youth, including expectant mothers, out of crisis and toward safety and success. We provide crisis intervention, transitional housing, pregnancy and parenting support, counseling, street outreach, and education services.

Our Pathways to Independence (formerly TLP) equips homeless youth ages 18-24 with the skills and education necessary to become independent, productive adults.

Our goal is to help formerly homeless youth develop much-needed independent living skills in a nurturing environment that offers stability, consistency, and safety. We work to ensure that when youth leave our programs, they will have grown into independent adults who can lead a happy and productive life.

When many of our youth, like Laquita, come to Promise House, they have no idea that their lives are about to change. When they walk into our doors, they are truly on the cusp of a new beginning.

Promise House Welcome Center (formerly EYS) is one of our cornerstone programs.

This program is highly individualized and is designed to meet the immediate needs of homeless youth (ages 18-24) and to equip them with the tools they need to grow into healthy, independent adults.

We have been providing these services to youth who need us, like Laquita Jackson, for almost four decades. These services have changed the lives of youth who utilize them and will continue to do so.

For almost 40 years, Promise House has moved youth in crisis toward safety and success. Now, we are strengthening our services by sharpening our focus to serve youth ages 18-24.

We are dedicated to serving youth 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, through our Promise House Welcome Center (formerly EYS), Pathways to Independence (formerly TLP), and Pathways to Motherhood (formerly MGH).

While the names of our programs have changed, our dedication and commitment to providing quality care have not. Our decades of work have helped people like Laquita Jackson, who came to us as a teenager during a time of crisis. Click here to learn more about Laquita's story. www.promisehouse.org/spring2023
