Our patients of the month are Isco and Yezelina! 🩵🩷

These 3 year olds are fraternal twins and one of the FOUR sets of twins we saw at the clinic today! What are the odds??

Well about 23 in every 1000 births are fraternal twins and of those, 50% are different genders. Only 3-4 in every 1000 births are identical twins, with female twins being slightly more common than male twins 👯‍♀️

Although these two may be twins, they have a lot of their own interests! Yezelina was showing off her gorgeous princess outfit today, while Isco was all about sharks from head to toe!! 👑🦈

So that we may spend time together as a work family, we will be closing at 2:30 today!

This book discussion will take place right here at Oak Cliff Pediatrics on Thursday, July 25th, from 5-6 p.m. We will be discussing Parenting at the Intersections, Raising Neurodivergent Children of Color. This book discussion is for:

• Parents of neurodivergent children, particularly those of color.
• Educators and caregivers working with neurodivergent children.
• Healthcare professionals interested in the intersectionality of race and neurodivergence in parenting.

Dr. Diana Torres Rivera is an Oak Cliff neighbor and an equity in education and comprehensible input education advocate. Currently she is the Director of Curriculum and Instruction and Spanish teacher at St. Cecilia Catholic School.

We ❤️ to celebrate our patients and their talents! We also ❤️ beauty and art 🖼️! Thank you to our sweet, local artist Ade Racz who displayed her artwork at Oak Cliff Pediatrics for the last few months. Ade’s artwork explores expression and perspective through various mediums such as acrylic, charcoal, pencils and oils, sometimes using household objects to convey a creative message. The works displayed were made from 2020-2022. Ade continues to create and grow as an artist. She lives in East Kessler Park with her parents and sister and is in the 11th grade at Ursuline Academy. Thank you Ade for the beautiful and creative exhibit at Oak Cliff Pediatrics!

Y’all! Help us WELCOME Taylor to the OAK CLIFF PEDIATRICS team! Taylor graduated from Texas Tech University in 2018 with a Bachelor’s in Human Development and Family Studies. She went on to graduate from Texas Woman’s University in 2021 with a Master’s in Child Life. Taylor has been working with children and their families for over eight years in various settings.

In her free time, Taylor likes to spending time with her boyfriend, watching sports and reading.

Moms & Mocktails is an event that allows new, expecting and prospective moms to come and spend an hour talking with our providers to have your questions answered!

Our patient of the month is Karleigh!!! ✨

Karleigh is 6 years old and her favorite color is pink! 🩷 She loves arts and crafts and we think it’s pretty cool she can spell her name with our letter blocks! 🤩

With April being Autism Awareness Month, we’re happy to introduce our patient of the month: Jaxon!

Jaxon will be 8 in August and he is all boy! He loves to play outside, swing, and ride his scooter 🛴He has a love for bears and you can always catch him singing “I’m going on a bear hunt” 🐻 He lights up the world with his blue eyes and smile 😊🩵

You may have seen a sweet new face at check in this week! Please help us welcome Lesly Hernandez to our team! Lesly was raised in Dallas and started working in pediatrics three years ago. She loves meeting new people and trying out different restaurants. During her free time she loves spending time with her boyfriend, going shopping or going on walks. She is excited to be a part of Oak Cliff Pediatrics and cannot wait to meet all of the wonderful families.

April is National Autism Awareness Month!

This is a great time to not only bring awareness to autism, but acceptance as well.

What is Autism?

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a complex behavioral disorder that affects how a child may interact with others and starts to be diagnosed around the age of 2.

What Causes Autism?

ASD develops from a combination of genetic and environmental factors. The timing that autism is diagnosed in children may coincide with many important vaccines your child will receive, but scientists have determined through extensive research that vaccines do not cause autism. American Academy of Pediatrics has compiled a list of this research here:

What can help?

Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) therapy is a great tool for skill development and addressing behaviors. There are many great places for this form of therapy, but a great local resource for ABA therapy for children is Penny & Sparrow located in our very own Oak Cliff Community. Celebrating Black History Month with pride at Oak Cliff Pediatrics! We’re honored to recognize the incredible contributions of Black leaders within our community. We are extra proud to celebrate the talent and achievements of one of our own: the incredible Vanity Scott!

Vanity Scott is a successful author and speaker who writes children’s books that spark confidence and connection in children. She has been writing since she was 7 years old and always dreamed of becoming an author. Her dreams have come true with her successful books!

Her most recent book, “Jumping Beanie & The Mustard Seed” was inspired by her son and co-author, Brandon. It’s a faith-based children’s book about resilience, courage, and the power of belief. It’s great for kids aged 2-6 years old to inspire them to do anything they set their mind to!

Some of her other books include:
“A Crown Like Mine” (ages 4-8 years) was inspired by her goddaughter, teaching self-love and confidence to young girls.
“A Girl and Her Grandpa” (ages 4-8 years) was inspired by her grandfather and is great in conjunction with “From Me To You” which is a journal of stories from grandparent to grandkid.

Vanity is such an inspiration as not only an author, but as a speaker, an entrepreneur, and a mother. Join us in honoring her and celebrating the legacy of Black excellence within our community! Together, let’s continue to inspire, educate, and advocate!

ADHD, a common concern with our school-aged children.

At Oak Cliff Pediatrics we pride ourselves in caring for your whole child and the whole family. While we have always provided ADHD evaluations, we are excited that we are now offering an added layer of testing with the QB Test. This is a testing system that provides an objective measure to confirm diagnosis. Together we will determine the best treatment and support for your child.
