The Independent Film 1946 on Amazon Prime* is a must see for anyone who reads the Bible*. Both of our Co-Pastors recommend it highly.
It was exceptional! We are especially proud that two Black womanist biblical scholars (Dr’s Angela Parker and Cheryl Anderson) were featured front and center.

Biblical translation is no triflin matter!

Womanist Biblical Interpretation, scholarship, and preaching matters!

*To stream this Independent film on Amazon Prime cost’s $14.95 (I know that’s crazy). However, you can also stream it at www.1946themovie.com for $12.85 and the funds will go directly to the documentary’s producer.

Anyone who reads the Bible needs to watch this documentary. Period.

First celebrated in 1979, Black August was created to commemorate George Jackson’s fight for Black liberation. Jackson published an epistolary work titled Soledad Brother which analyzes the US prison system and condemns racism in America.

Here is a recommended list of works, including Soledad Brother, that join in the clarion call of liberation.

This Black August at The Gathering we honor the spirit of revolution and the fight for liberation. Through Castera Bazile's powerful painting, Petwo Ceremony Commemorating Bwa Kayiman (1950), we remember the historic Bwa Kayiman ceremony—a pivotal moment in the Haitian Revolution, and a symbol of hope for oppressed peoples everywhere.

Bazile's artwork, rendered in oil on masonite, captures the essence of a ceremony that ignited the first successful slave rebellion, leading to Haiti's independence. This piece is not just a reminder of the past; it serves as a call to action for future generations to uphold justice and freedom. We have unfinished revolutions!

Join us in honoring the legacies of revolutionaries. Ancestral blessings! Free the land. ✊🏿

As October 12th approaches our Co-Pastors, Rev. Dr. Irie Lynne Session and Rev. Dr. Kamilah Hall Sharp along with our Ministry Partners, are preparing to celebrate the 7th anniversary of The Gathering, A Womanist Church.

During our worship experience this past Saturday we were reminded of our commitment to make pulpit and preaching space for womanist preachers. You see, from the very beginning our Co-Pastors made a commitment to, each month, extend an invitation to a womanist preacher who didn’t have a pulpit from which they regularly preached. Our Co-Pastors wanted to provide opportunities not only for other womanist’s to preach but for the congregation to experience the diversity of thought, exegesis, and style of womanist preachers.

This past Saturday, The Gathering’s Ministry Partners (we don’t have members we have ministry partners) and friends experienced the thought provoking, dynamic, spell-binding storytelling of Womanist Preacher Minister Leah Jordan.

Leah has preached with The Gathering at least once a year during these 7 years. And we want you to know it’s been a joy for our congregation to witness Leah’s preaching evolution, exegetical insight, and creativity. Leah’s womanist preaching evidences a decolonized imagination. Her preaching is a gift.

What are Womanists up to? 👩🏾‍🦱 Well, this week, Rev. Dr. Irie L. Session attended the Dallas HIV Task Force Networking Event, an assembly of passionate individuals working tirelessly in the fight against HIV. ❤️‍🩹

As a symbol of our collective strength, ✊🏾 Dr. Session seized the opportunity to connect, collaborate, and grow with professionals and community members. Through engaging discussions about the challenges and trends in the HIV movement, she represented The Gathering - a communal effort to combat HIV stigma and provide support.

We celebrate her commitment and applaud the Task Force's efforts. Standing together, we are stronger.
