Earlier today, I had the pleasure of joining other nonprofit leaders at Dallas City Hall for a meet-and-greet reception with council members and the Citizens Homelessness Commission. A big THANK YOU to United Way of Metropolitan Dallas for the opportunity to participate in their spring cohort of the Homelessness Capacity Building Program, sponsored by the City of Dallas. This training has provided us with the essential skills and resources needed to address homelessness in our community. It was a great honor to meet City Council District 13 Manager, Gay Donnell Willis. As a respected leader in our community, Gay understands the importance of fostering inclusivity and opportunity for all residents.

At the Association of Nigerian Women Entrepreneurs and Professionals - ANWEP, our mission is to champion social justice, equity, and well-being for immigrant communities, focusing on African immigrants in Texas. We empower women through advocacy, education, and support services. Our holistic approach addresses homelessness due to domestic violence by providing culturally competent resources, breaking language barriers, and combating stigma. We strive to create an inclusive and prosperous environment where all individuals can achieve their full potential.

February Member of the Month: Ogechi Ugwulebo 02/04/2024

http://www.dallaswe.org/2024/02/03/february-member-of-the-month-ogechi-ugwulebo/

I feel so honored to be named the Dallas Society of Women Engineers Member of the Month for February 2024. This means a lot to me particularly because February is Black History Month, a time to honor and celebrate the achievements, contributions, and resilience of African Americans and their central role in U.S. history.

In the world of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM), Black women have long played pivotal roles, yet their contributions have often been overlooked.

Black women in STEM continue to face unique challenges, including underrepresentation and systemic biases. However, their resilience, brilliance, and dedication to their fields have propelled them to leadership positions where they are actively driving change.

To ensure a more inclusive future in STEM, it is crucial to provide mentorship and support for aspiring Black women. Representation matters, and seeing leaders who look like them can inspire young minds to pursue their dreams fearlessly.

🌼 World Mental Health Day - October 10th 🌼

Oct. 10 is World Mental Health Day. According to the World Health Organization, one in eight people globally are living with mental health conditions. ANWEP recognizes the importance of mental health not just today, but every day.

Today, we stand together to raise awareness and support mental health worldwide. 💚 Let's break the stigma surrounding mental health issues and prioritize our well-being every day.

✨ ✨
🧘‍♀️ Take a moment for self-care.
🤝 Reach out to someone who may need a listening ear.
📚 Educate yourself and others about mental health.
🌱 Let's nurture a culture of understanding and empathy.

Remember, it's okay not to be okay, and seeking help is a sign of strength. Together, we can make a difference in the lives of those struggling with mental health challenges.

Let's spread love, kindness, and support today and every day. 💚
