Congratulations, Trey! In December 2022, Trey Brown completed his M.A. in English with a concentration in Rhetoric and Writing. Trey’s culminating project was a substantial research project on the performances of the comedian Ronny Chieng. Titled “'Flipping Over Backwards for the Community and Dying": The Asian/American Rhetoric of Ronny Chieng,” Brown’s project analyzed Chieng’s use of Asian/American rhetoric. Through this rhetoric, Trey concluded, Chieng challenges preconceived notions of Asian identity and subverts expectations of what it means to be a "representative" pop cultural figure in modern-day America. In addition to completing an article-length essay on the topic suitable for possible publication in a peer-review venue, Trey also showcased his findings in a short presentation given to the faculty in the College of Liberal Arts's School of Humanities and Cultural Studies.
A great news story about one of our alumni!

Our English majors are continuing to learn, grow, and travel. All the best in South Korea this summer, Kaylee!
Thanks to financial support from scholarships, Wright State student Kaylee Raines will be able to travel to South Korea this summer to study abroad.
“Without the John Pirelli Lodge Italian-American Scholarship, I wouldn’t have been able to pursue this amazing opportunity,” says Kaylee. “I am incredibly thankful for the generosity of this scholarship’s donors.”
A double major in English and international studies, with minors in French and comparative religion, Kaylee plans to continue her education at Wright State by pursuing a Master of Humanities. She ultimately wants to earn her law degree and work as an immigration or international attorney.
Passionate about connecting with people from all over the world, Kaylee will serve as an intern in the Wright State University - University Center for International Education this fall.
“I’m excited to work directly with the international students that will be attending our school,” she says. “This experience will promote my professional development by giving me direct experience with international relations and event coordination.”
