Demarest officers assisted our drivers education teachers with the annual DUI simulation for our tenth graders. Students wore goggles simulating impairment while driving through a course, and officers conducted field sobriety tests on them.
Thank you to Lt. Schmidig, PO Krynicky, PO Saint-Hilaire, and SRO Cho for participating.
Thank you to the Demarest DPW for helping us set up a million cones at 7AM!
A big thank you to Alpine Country Club for providing golf carts every year.

Join us for the National Take Back Initiative! Demarest PD, in collaboration with the DEA, is hosting the event on Saturday, April 27, 2024. Last year, over 4,383 law enforcement partners nationwide collected a staggering 599,897 pounds of unwanted medicines. Our goal is to provide a safe and anonymous opportunity for NJ citizens to dispose of unused, expired, or unwanted medications. Let’s tackle potential sources of abuse and misuse together, safeguarding public health and safety. Together, we can make a difference! The collected medications will be responsibly converted to clean energy by Covanta Energy at their waste facilities. Join us in protecting our community and environment.

- Medications may be disposed of in original containers, but residents are encouraged to remove identifying information from the label.
- All liquids, such as cough syrup, should remain sealed in their original container, ensuring that the cap is tightly sealed.
- Intra-venous solutions, injectables (including epipens), and syringes WILL NOT be accepted.
- Illicit substances such as ma*****na and methamphetamine WILL NOT be accepted.
- V**e pens will only be collected if the resident has removed the battery from the device; otherwise, they will not be accepted.

Don’t let distraction take the wheel! Distracted driving is a major issue on New Jersey’s roads, contributing to nearly half of all crashes in our state in 2019, the most recent year with data available.
To tackle this, law enforcement agencies across NJ are ramping up efforts as part of the U Drive. U Text. U Pay campaign.

Remember, every distraction counts – stay focused on the road!

The Demarest Police Department conducted a pedestrian safety detail today on Park Street. The purpose was to educate and enforce laws that are meant to protect our residents, mainly Title 39:4-36, which states that, “The driver of a vehicle shall stop and remain stopped to allow a pedestrian to cross the roadway within a marked crosswalk..”

Please continue to drive with caution in and around town, especially during school drop off and pick up times.

Big congratulations to Paul Schmidig on his well-deserved promotion to the rank of Lieutenant! With a proud lineage as a second-generation police officer, following in his dad’s footsteps as chief of the Bergen County Police Department, Paul started in the borough as a Demarest special police officer in 2003. He has since become an active shooter instructor, traffic officer, and a member of the Bergen County Rapid Deployment Force and Rapid Deployment Team. He has also served on the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Fugitive Task Force.

Congratulations on your accomplishment and here’s to your continued success!
