It not only helps them to breathe but is how they expel their ink and excrement. It is also called a funnel organ but that's not to confused with funnel cake. Eden and Sarah just buddy read Long Live Evil and they came to the same conclusion - It's a great Isekai tale! Long Live Evil is full of betrayal, longing, drama, and the best-dressed villains around! This book warmed their little villainous hearts!

Eden is doing just that. They wanted to become a moonflower - sadly, Katie Daisy’s beautiful book, How to Be a Moonflower, does not contain actual instructions to transmogrify; however, it is a visual celebration of the magic and wonder of nature at night full of gorgeous illustrations, which is a win in our book!

What are y’alls favorite books about plants and nature?

Our resident ghostie, Bernadette, is enthusiastic about anything ghost-related, especially books. She keeps throwing the advance copy of Jasmine is Haunted at our booksellers because she needs one of us to read it. Maybe she’s hoping for a seance/book club?

Hello fellow readers and anyone else that will listen! It's Sarah, and I'm pumped to talk about Hayley Denning's new book This Ravenous Fate.

EVERYONE STOP because this is a YA, q***r, vampire, friends-to-enemies-to-lovers story, set in Harlem during the 1920s! There's a lot going on and it's a great read. I'll definitely be looking out for more from this author in the future as should you!

Eden and Sybil are reading For Real together!

Alexis Hall’s For Real had Eden counting down the minutes until they could sit down and read more! Toby and Laurence had them enthralled – from the dynamic of their relationship to the complexities of their lives and inner selves - Eden deeply enjoyed this romance. The trust and love these characters have for each other had them swooning, not to mention the (very well written) spice.

Following Bookstore Romance Day, I had to check out a few new romance authors and one of the books I picked up was One Year Ago in Spain by Evelyn Skye - I fell so deeply, head over heals in love with the characters in this second-chance romance. For fans of Ashley Poston, magical realism, and good ole' fashioned yearning!

I just had to tell everyone about it! Which books did you pick up during our Romance Day celebration that you want to shout out?

AHHHHHHH! It's here in all its glory! A Sorceress Comes to Call has finally released!! Between the endpapers and the exclusive print we received - I am just freaking out over the art of the this book! All around I'm really hyped to be able to recommend this Gothic Fantasy about magic, geese, and the powerful monster that lurks near.

Fun Fact for the Day! August is Women in Translation Month - we are excited to share our favorite female translators and authors writing in language besides our native English.

Sarah is kicking things off with a shout-out to Emily Wilson!

She loves Emily Wilson's work. Sarah is a big lover of mythology and when she found Emily's translation of The Odyssey, she was thrilled to read an edition of this classic work translated by a woman (indeed, the FIRST major translation of The Odyssey by a woman!).

Eden created an entire love story using finger puppets because sometimes, that's what you need to do at work. Sadly, they will not be performing the epic love story for Bookstore Romance Day. Not to worry though, we'll have many fun activities for y'all to enjoy!

It's almost time for Bookstore Romance Day! We are always excited to share our favorite stories with y'all, but for Bookstore Romance Day the bookshop is all about Romance! And y'all, Cat Haven is going to be here with adoptable kittens. Yes, you read that correctly, there will be kittens in the bookshop. KITTENS. IN. THE. BOOKSHOP. I cannot get over it. If you are looking to adopt a new little love, here's your chance!

And it wouldn't be Bookstore Romance Day without a few local romance authors! Shirley Richard, author of Forever With Mr. James, Shirley McCoy, author of Dragon Song, and Kimber Ireland, author of Shift, will all be here to chat about romance and writing from 11 to 1!

Let's gossip about all of our fave tropes and joke about the character traits that give us the ick. Plus we'll be making friendship bracelets, writing love letters, and there will be plenty of snacks - you know you want to hang out with us! We'll see y'all at the bookshop all day Saturday August 17th - but remember, Cat Haven will only be here 2-4 so if you are looking for that daily dose of cuteness, be here then!

The Louisiana Center for the Book has chosen two titles to represent Louisiana literature at the National Book Festival in Washington, D.C. this year!

The American Daughters by Maurice Carlos Ruffin and I am Ruby Bridges by Ruby Bridges with illustrations by Nikkolas Smith will be the featured titles!

We are thrilled to have copies of both titles and especially thrilled to say we have a small number of signed copies on hand. Drop by the bookshop to scoop these up, and if you make it out to the National Book Fest make sure to swing by the Louisiana table and say hi to our friends at the Center for the Book!

It’s me, Sarah, checking it to let y’all know I really enjoyed this book! The author did a fantastic job of developing the characters and making their emotions feel real. I loved how the characters' choices and actions felt genuine, and you could feel the consequences of their decisions.

A Sorceress Comes to Call is a dark fantasy with a powerful found family at its core. You absolutely need to read this!

Also, this book made me quite fond of geese!
