We had a Tea Making class for our massage students! Our instructor, Kimberly Thompson, formulated an Energy & Muscle Vitality blend that we made together & learned about each herb & its benefits. This blend is a beautiful combination! All the favorite herbs all in one bundle. This tea is perfect for relaxing muscles, energizing the body, and calming the spirit. This is the perfect tea daily to support the mind and body. We love it after massage and physical activity to help restore and rejuvenate. Anti-inflammatory, supporting muscle growth and strength, pain management, antioxidant, high mineral alkalinizing, liver support, lowering blood sugar, heart supportive, and supporting all body systems with adaptogenic herbs! This tea has it all!

Recipe:
Energy and Muscle Vitality Blend
Stinging Nettle 2pts
Oatstraw 1pt
Tulsi 1pt
Horsetail 1pt
Gotu Kola 1/4pt
Schisandra 1/16pt
Rose hips 1/4 pt
Ashwagandha 1/8pt
Cinnamon 1/8pt
Rose Petal 1 pinch
Licorice 1 pinch

We took our students to a Cadaver Lab this morning! 🦴 💀 It’s always such an inspiring experience to palpate the actual structures of the body with the skin removed. It’s rewarding to have studied the body for so long & then to feel the structures, hold them, & see how they really live together under the skin. Each time we go, as instructors, we learn more as the cadavers change & different things present themselves based on the different situations happening with each cadaver. Anatomy truly is an average. We are each so unique in how our bodies express themselves anatomically. One of my favorite notices, this round, was how the TFL blends in & becomes the IT band so seamlessly. Also, we all appreciated how beautiful our fascia truly is - it’s pearl-like iridescence - it’s magical to see & to feel. 🤍

Thai Herbal Compress Making Day! Always one of our favorite clinics. We also made Colorado Herbal Compresses with herbs from our school & house gardens. We made them together & massaged with them. These compresses are fabric filled with herbs that are steam heated & massaged into the body. Wish we could share the aromas here. Lemongrass, Ginger, Turmeric, Kaffir Lime Leaves, Camphor, & Salt for the Thai ones. Makes me hungry writing this 😊 For the Colorado garden compresses: Spearmint & Peppermint were the focus this round but Sage (Salvia officinalis) is a nice addition to. More on how to make these in the next post. These compresses always seem to me like sunshine being massaged into my body 🌞

Aromatherapy time. One way to therapeutically use essential oils is by inhalation on a tissue. We were talking about Ravintsara essential oil & trying it. 😊 You place a drop on a tissue & stick the tissue up your nose & close off the other nostril. Then take a few deep breaths. Ravintsara (Cinnamomum camphora) helps bolster immune system function because it’s antimicrobial & it also relieves respiratory congestion. For massage therapists, you can add it to a carrier oil & apply to sore muscles as it will reduce muscle cramps & fatigue. Great to use post workout on muscles! Our students learn about the therapeutic benefits & applications of essential oils throughout their program & clinic time. We have a sister herbalism school & we have a full herbal apothecary with a huge array of essential oils for our massage students to use.

Our students getting “in touch” with anatomy. Literally 🩻 🥼 Last week they did a cadaver lab that was focused on finding & palpating the body’s anatomy. This lab really helps kinesthetic & visual learners get a handle on the structures of the body.
