September ends with a full board as a few of our powerlifting crew wraps up prep for their competition on Oct 12. in have a feeling we will be seeing a lot of PRs on the October board from that day!

With the Oly crew competing on Oct 29 they will also do their part to fill the board as they finish up prepping for the comp and the. Sling big on game day.

Team WNY Fall Classic Sun Oct 27!!!

We are happy to announce that registration is open for our annual fall classic. This is a sanctioned meet open to all USAW members. We will be giving out cash prizes to top 3 overall male and female lifters as well as the top male and female Masters lifters.

Registration is limited to 36, and closes on Oct 11. At the close of registration we will announce the schedule.

Great to see some of our scholastic athletes starting to show up on the board! Even though lifting heavy is not the focus, it is always fun when we see their hard work pay off with PRs in the gym as well as on the field of play.

***MEET ANNOUNCEMENT***

We are pleased to announce that we will be hosting the WNY Regional Open on Sat April 27th and Sun April 28th!!!

For this event ladies will be lifting on Saturday and guys will be going on Sunday. All participants will receive an event T Shirt. Medals will be awarded for each weight class winner. We will be giving cash prizes to the Top 3 Open Male and Female lifters. We will also be doing a cash prize to Top Masters lifter (male and female). Masters lifters will be eligible for the Open prize as well, but age will not be used in their scoring.

Spots will be limited for this.

Lot of big number posted in October. As our powerlifters start to step up up in prep for Mustache Mayhem in February and our Oly preps for the Team WNY Fall Classic and/or AO Finals this is sure to be a sign of what is to come for the rest of the year.

From our National level to beginners, Oly and powerlifters crushed it in Sept. Not to be out done, our scholastic athletes more than held their own.

Month after month our individualized approach to training yields continued improvement. Train with a team, get treated as an individual.

Solid month for the crew as our scholastic athletes finish up prep for fall sports, our powerlifting crew comes out of their GPP block and back into heavy lifting and our Only crew starts to get ready for the Fall Classic.

Designed for someone who:

-does Crossfit and wants to get some in depth technical coaching on clan and jerk or sn**ch from a National Level USAW coach
-uses the Oly or Powerlifts as part of a general strength routine and feels the need some fresh eyes on them
-use versions of the Oly lifts for a collegiate or high school sports performance plan and need to hone in on their technique
-wants to try to learn the lifts while maintaining their current strength routine
-coaches who want to learn how to teach the lifts by learning from a more experienced coach

***NEW TRAINING ARTICLE***

Another great showing from Team WNY members this past weekend at the Intrepid Athletics Open. Our team hit the bench mark goal for 67% success rate, with a lot of PRs and people running at numbers needed to qualify for national events.

In our latest training article we lay out some of the steps we take as a team to ensure that our lifters and coaches are prepared and set up for success on game day. These steps allow us to time and again have a high success rate on the platform, even when running at PRs and qualifying totals.

Online Video Review of Sn**ch Deadlift

Rep 1 was spot on. Rep 2 not so much (but purely from a technical standpoint).

Base summation: sn dl should move like a sn**ch. A parameter we set for the sn is the back angle should remain constant off of the fl and through the above knee position.

On the first rep you maintained this. This rep, start to finish looked as if you were trying to sn**ch it. VERY well done. On rep 2 as you cleared the knees you shifted back a little bit. You can see the shoulders lean back and the weight shift more to the heels. This lead to the back angle changing early. On a sn this will affect the balance of the pull, and prevent you from maximizing leg drive on the finish and keeping the bar tight along the body.

The shrug was fine, but watch for the plantar flexion. I have had a few lifters in the past add that little shrug at the end. It reminds them to drive up w legs (like a sn/cl dl) and not just hinge/lean back like a normal dl. Rep 2 however you extended on the the balls of the feet. I think that this was a result of the early lean back affecting your ability to stay balanced on the feet. Want to avoid that and stay flat footed on the finish of a dl. .................................................................

For $20 you can send up to 4 videos of one of your lifts to get reviews by National Level Coach Steve Titus. He will then provide a technical analysis on those videos, as well as answer any follow up questions. Far an additional fee a review of current strength/lift numbers is also offered; to help provide some insight into what strength work may be needed to work improving the technical aspect of the lift.
