MRS. SUSAN UNDERWOOD BOWERS, former Victory Baptist Church member, and retired Missionary with the International Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention, WITH THE LORD.

Dear Victory Family & Friends, Please be in prayer for the Underwood and Bowers families. I’m just now finding out that Sister Susan passed away August 18. Sister Susan is a former member of Victory Baptist Church and was called into missions as such. She served 32 years in South America. She is the daughter of the late Emmett and Mary Henley Underwood, who were also VBC members.

VBC is grateful for her life and the blessings she and husband Steve were to us on their visits back to VBC. VBC has truly been impacted over the years by their service to The LORD even as Susan was impacted by and called from VBC during her younger years.

Please join me in prayer for her husband, Bro. Steve, and their sons Corbin and Austin , and siblings Brenda Conner, and Emmett, Jr., and their families.

A beautiful eulogy by her husband Steve is copied and posted in the comments. I encourage you to read this short but powerful testimony of a faithful life that was given to The LORD.

Obituary for Susan Underwood Bowers at Strickland Funeral Home-Hartwell Mrs. Susan Underwood Bowers, 65, of Hartwell passed away Sunday, August 18, 2024 at her home. Born on September 26, 1958 in Atlanta GA, she was the daughter of the late Emmett Iverson Underwood Sr. and Mary Henley Underwood. Mrs. Bowers graduated and received her Bachelors Degree from the University

IF YOU WANNA FEEL YOUNGER, HANG OUT WITH THE YOUNG FOLKS. If you wanna feel old, try to keep up with them.

HA! Sunday last, the wonderful YOUTH of Victory Baptist Church, Douglasville, GA, Pastor James H. Cook, Jr., had mercy on us and blessed us with their presence and ministry by singing for us as a YOUTH CHOIR -- at just the right pace for us to keep up and not get tired or left behind. Matter-of-fact, we were ENTHUSED!

Bro. Christopher Bankston even played the piano and Bro. Marquen Williams eloquently read from The Scriptures. Others helped to usher and all displayed a gracious spirit.

We had a lot of fun just getting them all up in the choir, and I think you can see that by all the smiles in the pictures. And I am so delighted and encouraged by our older Youth who embraced the little ones and let them be included and participate with them.

It was our Youth Sunday Service an that no one was shunned and all the Youth were loving on each other just blessed this Pastor's heart!

God bless you VBC Youth, Parents, and Church! God gave us a GREAT DAY of worship yesterday! We were all feeling younger and more alive in Jesus because of it!

As one watches the Olympics we are reminded just how important it is to get off to a good start in a race. It’s also important to continue that good start through the entire event to finish well.

Some of the opening ceremonies for the Olympics, in my opinion, didn’t get off to a good start. I’m talking about the so called, “LORD’s Supper Controversy.”

But do you know that Christians can mock and bring dishonor to THE LORD’S SUPPER? It’s one thing for unBelievers to do such a thing, but it’s a tragedy on another level for Christians to do it. And to do so endangers our very lives!

It was the best Sunday worship service you ever participated in! WOW! The message and meeting were not only informational, and inspirational, but also transformational! Yes, life will do that to us. It has no mercy. No matter how inspired and motivated we are, “Mondays” hit us square in the face sometimes. When Daniel and his three friends faced the unexpected but real world of interruption, relocation, and chaos that brutally invaded their lives, they still determined to remain faithful and go forward applying the truths they had learned from God and His Word.

Did you ever know of a parent to teach their child how to lie? Neither have I. Matter of fact, we all teach our children how to tell the truth because they already know how to lie. Why is that?

We have been deceived from The Beginning by Satan, The Father of All Lies. And he has many children and grandchildren! His deceit infects the world today ravaging lives, homes, and nations. Many of us are and have been deceived by his lies that we don’t even know what the truth is anymore. Watch any political debates lately?

Tomorrow, and right on time for not only Vacation Bible School, but for the recognition that we need God in our Country as we celebrate Independence Day, I’ll be preaching the message, “TRUTH COMES FROM GOD,” found in Genesis 2–3.

Dear Victory Baptist Church Family & Friends,

Have you called her yet? You know, your Mom. But you say, “I’ve got one more day, it’s only Saturday.” No, I mean have you called her to invite her to join you in church worship tomorrow? Or, is she calling you with that same invite?

It is a wonderful way to praise God and honor the Mom He has given you by being together in church and worshipping The LORD Jesus. And if your Mom is already in Heaven then what a blessed way to honor and cherish her memory by being in church worshipping The One in Whose presence she’s with and praising.

If Mom is present in church, she will get a present from the church!

We will also have a Parent/Child dedication ceremony in the service.

And I’ll be preaching the message, “Honor Thy Father *AND* Thy Mother,” from, Exodus 20:12.”

This Sunday we recognize and celebrate our Senior Saints. And one of those ways we do it is inviting all those 55+ to make up the SENIOR SAINTS CHOIR! This is always a blessing!

I’ll be preaching what I pray will be an encouraging message for all Seniors, from Hebrews 12:1-3 & 13:5-6 & 8, titled, “OUR UNCHANGING GOD IN OUR EVER CHANGING LIVES.”

Dear Victory Baptist Church Family & Friends,

He missed it! After waiting nine months with his wife, he missed his child’s birth! She missed it! It was time to pay the bill but she forgot! They missed it! They thought the eclipse would be later but it was earlier and they all missed seeing it!

Friend, we all miss many things. But there’s one thing none will miss because, “EVERY EYE WILL SEE HIM.”

Make no doubt about it, every person, whether he wants to or not, we’ll see the Returning Lord Jesus! And that will be a wonderful site for many and for the others a very frightful one!

I will be preaching on that Promised Event that all will see, from Revelation 1:7, and we will also be recognizing the Youth, and continuing to support our Douglas County Pregnancy Resource Center (PRC), with prayers and offerings, in this Sunday’s Church Meeting.

Dear Victory Baptist Church Family & Friends,

Let’s all admit it – we can’t do it all. Truth is, we can’t do much of any of it. Our resources are limited and our strength at its best is weak. But God can! Yes! HE IS ABLE! And we can look to and entrust to Him our most valuable needs, deepest confidences, and even our souls.

Considering the above, I’ll be preaching this LORD’s Day from 2 Timothy 1:12, the message, “OUR GOD IS ABLE – ALL THE TIME!” that I hope will be an encouragement for us all.

VBC continues to PRAY / GIVE / GO to support missions and missionaries as we give to “THE ANNIE ARMSTRONG EASTER OFFERING FOR NORTH AMERICAN MISSIONS,” and to our Douglas County Pregnancy Resource Center (PRC).
