Our Story
IL YMCA Youth and Government was founded in 1949. For over the past 70+ years, the program has been dedicated to helping each generation learn about democracy in the state through our mock legislative and judicial programs. High school students focus on skills of critical thinking and writing, debate, time management through writing legislation, proposals and judicial appeal arguments. More importantly, students have a platform that helps them find their voice, their passion, and cultivate the skills of listening, collaboration, understanding, and respect - skills that will take them past high school, through college, and into their communities.
