Announcement!! I am formally closing my commission bookings after 20+ years. It’s been such an honor to create pieces for you! Due to an incredible volume of inquiries and some current and future big projects, I’m moving to only offering the work I’m creating in studio as well as what is offered in galleries (like the amazing ) and exhibitions. This is not to say I won’t offer commissions again, but I’m pausing inquiries for an undetermined length of time. Deeply honored to be asked to be part of your lives in this way!! This Sunday! Join me and an incredible group of artists for a sweet gathering at my dear friend’s home from 11 am-4pm! I will have a very limited run of signed prints and notecards, alongside a few original works.

Sharing a new 16” x 20” piece and poem towards the offering Kyle Leia Elden Heyesen and I are collaborating on. ✨

In some cases, I’m creating work based on her incredible poetry- and in other cases she is working from my paintings. In this case, I painted from a dream- and it felt visually different than much of my work…until Kyle shared this poem with me! It all made sense. Coincidence? Synchronicity? No matter the answer, I’m honored to be working with her. It is truly a gift. 🩷 Can’t wait to share our project with you! Stay tuned!

With this darkness setting in
I watch as a full moon rises appreciating every miraculous shade of light it captures
brilliant pink with fire orange heart at the horizon, lifting up fierce yellow as the eyes of a wild cat at its highest point gleaming white
as the teeth of a momma bear
Like wolves, I just howl
the only thing I know to do, I how!
& howl, & howl
and my pack howls with me
I am not alone
this primal chorus carries me forward this moonlight illuminates my way into the night opening up before me

Thought I’d share another small piece I have in progress towards a project I am working with the wonderful poet Kyle Leia : ‘Deep Rest’ oil on canvas , 18” x 24”, c 2023 Sarah Brokke.

Forgive the shine- it’s a very tricky piece to photograph given all of the layers and the surface textures. ✨

Nearly finished with this painting I began surrounded by amazing folks at my workshop in July. Just thought I’d share!

Within her art practice, Sarah Brokke (Duluth, MN) seeks to cultivate vulnerable spaces of ritual, reflection, and growth. The exhibit is on view through August 25th at The Reif!

Brokke is the director of the art program and an associate professor at the College of St. Scholastica in Duluth, MN. She holds a BFA from the University of Minnesota-Duluth and an MFA from Bowling Green State University in Bowling Green, Ohio.

The world has lost an incredible light and brilliant, powerful being who shared beauty and truth everywhere. Honored to have known and worked with such an amazing human, much less having been able to paint her.
