"Lake Superior Agates"
These are agates that I picked over the years and recently polished via a rock tumbler. For scale, the biggest agate is slightly larger than a golf ball.
I picked these from gravel pits and not from any State Parks or the shoreline of Lake Superior.
And now I turn this into an outdoor art gallery!
My booth location has changed from past years at the Ely Blueberry Arts Festival, I’m now located in booth #154-155.
"Agate Beach"
Light reflecting on water ripples over a Lake Superior Agate along Minnesota's North Shore of Lake Superior.
"Keeper of the Stars"
It was a beautifully clear summer night with the Milky Way over Lake Superior along Minnesota's North Shore. Mars rises to the left, while Jupiter and Saturn set on the right, with the Milky Way and shooting stars in between. Captured in Split Rock Lighthouse State Park.
"Crescent Lake Sunrise"
A mirror-calm sunrise along the shoreline of Crescent Lake in rural Cook County, MN.
“Mesa Arch 2” in float framed metal mount with light walnut finish, heading to a good home soon!
Check out this behind the scenes making of "Stoney Point 2", an image I captured a number of years ago along Minnesota's North Shore of Lake Superior.

"Dancing Loon"
I didn’t particularly feel like getting up at 4:30am for the third morning in a row and then paddling several miles before photographing sunrise. I even had another much easier sunrise location scouted that was a short walk from my car, but I felt like the water was calling me and decided to slide my canoe into the water.
It was a glass-calm morning, the kind where you almost feel guilty breaking the silence with the sound of your paddle. Steam was floating over the water, which I knew would burn off shortly after the sun rose.
After shooting sunrise I was paddling back to the landing when I noticed a loon hanging out in one of the shaded bays that still had steam on it. I knew it was a long shot, but if the loon was amenable to it, there was a chance I could photograph it in some dramatic light. I was careful to keep my distance and eventually the loon warmed up to me, even popping up out of the water a mere 15 feet from the canoe after one of its dives.
Then the sun popped up over the trees, creating the magical backlight I was seeking. After a while my neck and arms were starting to get tired from holding my heavy medium format camera. Then the brief moment arrived where the lighting was perfect and the loon decided to put on a show. That’s when I snapped this image.

"Wild Rose in Morning Dew"
A prairie rose captured in morning dew along Minnesota's North Shore of Lake Superior.
"Positively Purple" - If you've ever driven up highway 61 along Minnesota's North Shore in June, you've probably noticed Lupine lining the ditches...which is exactly where I captured this image!
"Lupine Forever" - Lupines captured on a beautiful June day along Minnesota's North Shore of Lake Superior.
"Palisade Head 5"
Sunrise at Palisade Head in Tettegouche State Park, along the North Shore of Lake Superior.
"Lupines on Fire"
I had discovered this field of lupines along Lake Superior two days earlier. Knowing their short blooming season, I returned four times over three days, the first three I was defeated by flat skies and windy conditions. Finally, my fourth time returning, I captured the flowers in peak bloom with one of the most vibrant sunrises I’ve ever witnessed. For a moment, the wind calmed and allowed me to make this exposure during the most magnificent part of the sunrise.
"Tough Little Tree"
This tough little tree was captured in Minnesota's Jay Cooke State Park. For me, this image is a metaphor for life's struggle to survive.
"Marsh Lily Pads"
To capture this image I put on my hip waders and hopped into mosquito infested waters. I don't typically do much photography during midday, but the sun was at a good angle for illuminating into the water, which I helped along by using a circular polarizer filter, allowing details underneath the water to show.
"Convergence"
Wow, what a night... my alarm went off at 1:45 A.M. the morning of April 1st, 2022, followed by an hour-long drive from Duluth up to Split Rock. As I was taking some test shots I noticed a glow above the treetops, which grew into the more rare bluish purple-colored Northern Lights, leaving what a photographer such as myself would consider a pot of gold at the end of the proverbial rainbow - the Milky Way, in this case.
"Breaking Through"
I discovered this location after doing some exploring along the St. Louis River in Jay Cooke State Park. It's one of my “secret locations,” but I'm not too worried tourists will come flocking to it since it requires crossing the river with hip waders, a dangerous task during certain times of the year. On the third evening returning to this spot I suddenly noticed hard shadows being cast across the river. I turned and looked up to see the sun finally “breaking through” -- something I had waited three days for! I took a couple of exposure readings, adjusted my graduated neutral density filters to balance the exposure, and just as quickly as the light had appeared, it was gone. Fortunately, I was able to capture this image during that short moment.
