One of the most popular summertime appointments….. blonding color service (foundation color, highlights, detail shades), followed by a Natural Keratin Smoothing Treatment.

Glass like finish and shiny blonde. Why would you say no to that?

PS….. Just about ANY color service can be finished with an ….. regardless of the shade, that glass like finish still seals the deal!

Making plans for summer vacation? Curious as to how you’re going to protect your hair color in the pools and on the beach? It’s EASY….. just follow these simple steps…….

First….. wet (soak) your hair with tap water from the shower.

Second….. take a cheap (store bought) conditioner, and coat your hair completely. Leave it in. Do NOT rinse. Clip up in a bun of sorts.

Third….. enjoy your time in the water and have fun.

Fourth….. when finished in the water, immediately rinse all of the conditioner completely out of your locks…… then, give yourself a good shampoo, and a light conditioning, and then carry on with your routine!

The conditioner will create a barrier between the elements and your hair. I say use a cheap one cuz you need a lot. Lol.

I love a good challenge…..

This gorgeous beauty had a few things going on that were preventing her from achieving the clear, cool blonde she has wanted forever…..

Bands. LOTS of bands, as well as several months of regrowth with a dark natural base, and inconsistent appointment intervals have created the road blocks, and I am HERE for it!

A project like this takes lots of time and requires more patience and skill than most realize. Choosing the right Colorist to take on such a project can take research and may require you to do your due diligence….. however, when you find a Colorist that not only posses the talent and skill, but also LIVES for it, you’ve got a winning combo!

While the ultimate goal (inspo not shown) is a cleaner, clearer and all over cooler blonde color, the journey getting there takes time. Can it be done in one appt? Sure. Will we have flowy, long blonde hair when it’s all said and done? Probably not. A good Colorist will explain the pros and cons of a rushed service.

This first appt took about 5.5 hours. As you can see we were able to lift the majority of the banding out and make it blend. Is it perfect? Nope. Not yet. Is her hair intact? Yep, sure is. I find it’s more important to be able to maintain the porosity and health over instant gratification.

In just one more visit (hopefully), we will get the chance to clean out the rest of that banding allowing the hair to get to that clearer, cooler tone the guest desires. Again, time and patience, along with skill produces consistent, healthy results.

Home care and maintenance are KEY to achieving the best results! Yes, it takes the skill of the Colorist, but keeping the canvas happy and healthy at home is just as important. To help maintain the integrity at home K18 Leave-In Mask will keep the hair strong, all the while prepping it for the next (and hopefully final) phase of this project. Having that next appt scheduled and keeping to that schedule is super important as well.

Well friends…. I wasn’t sure if I was confident enough to put myself out there, but what the hell, right?
It’s my first time diving in and I’m goin head first, eyes closed and backwards! BEST of Durham in is now out for the first round of , and I’d be honored if I could have your’s. I never thought I’d ever ask for “best of” votes but here we are. How far can we go???

People ask me all the time…. “What do you like to do better? Color or cut? The answer- NEITHER! What I love the most about what I do is this…. Take a look at that smile. First time with hair color other than her natural since high school, and even then it was box color. major haircut! Heavy, coarse and textured, previously highlighted and growing out grey, the long, one length was the best option, until we decided to cut off just about all of the old color and highlights…. Dead weight be gone! Can’t wait to see this lovely in her natural hair state!

2nd round…. 10 weeks ago this beauty was box brown on top, and box red in the bottom…. And wanted get as close to her as possible…. After test strands, decolorizers, and many treatments, she was in for round 2 this past week… another round of highlighting, some and patience, this is where we ended up. 3rd round may just be an overlay and then we may be done! As we move into ‘23, this journey you’ve chosen to join me on is going to take all kinds of twists and turns. But if you think we’ve had fun so far, you just wait…..

And as for the new brightness, I’m adding more art to the space for the New Year. Keith Haring is one of my faves…. He was a street artist, whose Pop Art emerged from the NYC Graffiti subculture of the 80’s. I’ve always loved this one, “Movement”….. I feel like it is indicative of how I have moved in and out of the foggines of this thing we call life, all the while never losing my brightness and ability to pass that brightness off to anyone who, like me, is just sometimes in need. Life is about Movement. Sometimes they’re fun, happy Movements, and other times they’re dark, desperate Movements, like plunging into the depths of Hell….. but if you look up from those depths, there’s brightness…. And that brightness brings amazing change. And it’s that change that gives us the strength and courage to crawl out of those depths and reclaim our true selves. I’ll post
more pics once I finish the installation.

Sorry for the rant. I kinda couldn’t stop my fingers from zooming across these letters. I can’t WAIT to continue this journey, and am so thankful I have amazing people, clients and friends to share it with.
