We are stocked with a ton of Jam and Jelly, including two new flavors, Blackberry Jalapeno and Strawberry Habanero!

Our girls have been busy out in “Graceland” (Our rooster’s name is Elvis), making a beautiful rainbow of eggs for you!

PEPPERS…

Last spring, when I was selling varieties of peppers that folks weren’t familiar with, like Love Apples, Sunnybrook Pimentos, and Shepherds Ram’s Horn, along with some spice peppers like Paprika and Cayenne, people would ask me how you use those peppers.

For the sweet peppers - Love Apples, Sunnybrooks, and Rams Horns, we used them just as we would bell peppers. We particularly LOVED the Love Apples - super thick walls, red through and through, deliciously sweet. These would make premium stuffers, but we ended up eating them all raw, except for the last few stragglers. The Sunnybrooks were delicious, with just a teeny bit of warmth at the end to distinguish them from a regular bell, and the Rams Horns, roasted, were stunning!

But another use for peppers, especially those with a little damage, or that have gotten a little soft or over-ripe, is to dehydrate them and turn them into… RED PEPPER FLAKES!

I did a little research, and it turns out the ubiquitous “red pepper flakes” of pizzeria fame are just that, red pepper, flaked. Although there’s a heavy lean toward cayenne, you can add in any and all other red peppers. You just dry them, seeds and all, pulse them in a food processor, and voila, red pepper flakes!

And that’s just what we did with our remaining peppers, which we’d had to pull before they were fully ripe when an early frost hit us a few weeks ago. They finished ripening, but got a little soft in the process, and I have enough frozen peppers to last an eternity (did you know raw peppers freeze very well - just chop them up and freeze - 1 cup chopped = 1 average bell pepper), so red pepper flakes it was!

It’s the start of TOMATO SEASON! Literally!

We spent the morning getting seeds tucked into damp paper towels, labeled, and placed in a warm spot to germinate. Over the next 5-10 days, as they sprout, we’ll transfer the seeds to starter cells, and nurse those babies til they are ready to head to the garden, ours or YOURS! Keep an eye out here for plant sale dates, plus, look for garden plant starts in our booth at the Duvall Farmers Market and the Carnation Farmers Market. In addition to tomatoes, we’ll have lots of other beautiful starts to fill out your spring, summer or fall garden.

First Post! So excited to start this new adventure! Ten years ago, I couldn’t have imagined myself as a gardener, much less a farmer. Yet here I am, gray hair and all, heading into a new adventure.

I can’t wait to make sharing this passion my full time job! If you’ve ever been the beneficiary of my pushy, “Ciff Clavin”, have-some-tomato-plants enthusiasm, then you can rest easy knowing I’ve finally found a constructive outlet for all that garden love!
