Cutest little buckling looking for a new pasture. He was a big boy and has been alert and perky since his feet touched the ground. I haven’t sent in his registration paperwork yet, so you can pick his registered name. Comes from great milk lines and a clean biosecurity tested herd. He’s quite the cutie!

Spring is in full swing and all our bellies are getting bigger every day! We’ve got quite a few new kids coming to the farm this year. Juno is due any day with twins, I thankfully am only carrying a single, and Ziva’s kids will be a surprise. She hid her babies in her 1st ultrasound so we don’t know how many or when exactly she’s due. It’s going to be an exciting month. Stayed tuned for some unbelievably cute Nubian kids here shortly! 🐐🐐👶🏻🐐🐐

We harvested over 23lbs of meat today from our first set of 5 Cornish Cross broilers. It was a steep learning curve and slow going at first, but I’m feeling very proud of the meat we’re putting away in the freezer tonight. It wasn’t an enjoyable experience and nor should it be. But I feel much better about butchering our own pasture-raised chickens than participating in factory farming. So I think that going forward broilers are going to have a permanent place on our farm. We’re also committed to using as much of the animal as possible so:
- the heads, offal, feathers and blood went into the compost for the garden next year
- the feet and carcasses will be used to make bone/chicken broth
- and of course the meat will feed our family. The one I roasted for dinner tonight was by far the juiciest chicken I’ve ever had!

We’ve got another group of broilers to harvest in a couple weeks. I wanted to try out two different breeds to see which would work better for us. So it will be interesting to see and taste the difference. Anyone local, let me know if there’s interest in local, pasture-raised and humanely slaughtered chicken 👍🏻

Looking for a new pasture. I have 2 wethers that I am looking to sell through no fault of their own, I'm just refocusing my efforts on the farm. They need to go together to be added to larger flocks. They are all extremely sweet and friendly and would be perfect as pets, companions for rams/bucks, or for a petting zoo. They've been hand raised and are good around kids. My toddler feeds them and pets them and they're sweet as can be. Sad to see them go so I'm looking for a great home for them. Please PM me if you're interested and find more details below:

The pork is here! We got our meat back this week and I’m so excited by how much it was (and a little shocked I managed to fit it all in our freezers!) I also requested the fat back (last photo) so that I can render lard. I’m determined to use as much of them as I can. Thank you boys, we’ll be eating well this year 🤍🐖

Sunday was sheep day today 🤍🐑🤍 We finally got the girls sheared, gave the lambs their shots and everyone got a pedicure. Happy to relieve the girls of their wools coats before the weather gets warm (if that ever happens this year…)

Two new beds in! The dahlias and the tomatoes finally have homes 🙌🏻 little by little we’re building out the garden. The fence is in the works and coming along slowly. Hopefully I’ll be able to finish the posts for the long side of the garden so I can get all my fruit trees planted soon. They’ll be espaliered against the fence so I need to have the posts in first. They’ve been in trugs on my porch since March and are starting to complain about it… not that I blame them 😶🌱

Another new arrival last night! Single healthy ram to Lillian 🖤

The girls insist on laying on my hay bales… and in the hay trough… and in the wheelbarrow… basically anywhere that’s not their coop. So I bought a couple of cheap nesting boxes off Amazon to hang above the hay to temp them into somewhere convenient to lay. Seems Goldie’s already got the hang of it 👌🏻

These boys have been a joy to have on the farm. We’ve caught the pig bug for sure! So much so that we’ll be adding a breeding pair of this breed (Idaho Pasture Pigs) in June to our farm roster. That way we’ll be able to breed our own piglets and have more pork shares available. Contact us if you’re interested!

Pigs are all moved to their new pasture 🌱 I’ve been moving them once a month to let them graze down their area before giving them a new pen of fresh grass. We’ve had a bobcat lurking around and grabbing birds occasionally so I’m hoping their new spot, right next to where the chickens hang out, will take care of that problem… piggie protection 👌🏻

Moving them is super easy thanks to Premier 1’s electric wire reels. It makes it incredibly easy to take down and set up new pens, if you’re interested in rotational grazing or doing rotational grazing and these are amazing! Pick up their t-post brackets while you’re at it,
you’ll thank me later.

Hello All, I'm going to have my first round of lambs in April and I'm wondering if anyone would be interested in any ram lambs that I may get. I've got Lacaune/East Fresian dairy sheep out of Black Sheep Creamery. I'm just starting with a small flock so I don't want to keep any of their sons but they will have excellent dairy genetics and I wanted to gauge people's interest. Please contact me if you're interested. Thanks!

Finally had time to get the garlic in the ground! Ordered about 4x more than last year and I can’t wait to have too much garlic to know what to do with!

Welcome to the farm Cremini, Porchini, and Porkobello! I picked up our IPP feeders yesterday and we’re so excited to finally have pigs on the farm. Third times the charm I guess! It’s going to be a steep learning curve but I have a feeling I’m going to love having these little porkers around 🧡

These cats man. Thanks (I guess) kitties for digging up our first harvest of potatoes. And generally being garden pests 🙃

My new egg collection system is working splendidly! I’ve struggled to find a system to keep track of the dates of when eggs were collected and our kitchen has lately been overrun with buckets and bowls of eggs with slips of paper with dates… it’s been a total mess. But thanks to and their new RISATORP baskets and some calendar magnets I think I’ve finally found a solution! 🙌🏻 🦆🐓🥚🥚🥚

Felt great to get my hands dirty today! It was the perfect day for planting today and we made the most of it! I got a bed of mixed greens put in and two beds of potatoes while Mike and Henry were out seeding the parts of the field we had worked in with a sheep pasture mix. My new hoop bender also worked great- so hopefully the deer aren’t too determined to get to my lettuce before we get the garden fenced 🤞🏻🌱🦌🐇

The lambs have arrived! We’ve brought home our first real livestock today and I couldn’t be more excited. I’ve been dreaming about getting sheep for years and the day has finally arrived! These two little girls are Lacaune sheep, which are a dairy breed. So I can’t wait until we get some delicious milk from them next year. Sheep are new to me so I’m sure it’s going to be a steep learning curve ahead. Sorry you’re all about to be bombarded with lamb cuteness. Names to be decided so leave some suggestions!

Photos from Crickhollow Farms's post 03/18/2021

The new lambs are settling in nicely and I can’t tell you how much I love seeing them out grazing and sunbathing when I look out the window 🤍 I’m also getting to know their personalities better which will help in naming them I think. #10 is spunky and curious, she’s the first one to walk up to us and is well on her way to a raisin addiction (planned sheep treat for bribery). #35 is quiet and cautious, she is mellow and still warming up to us. And has yet to work up the courage to try a raisin 🤨 name suggestions still appreciated!
